Ha! Scratch that. Literally as soon as I posted I got the thing out. Was posting from under the car. Lol.

Tip for future: jack up front of car, get a 10" adjustable wrench on it parallel to the drive train. Use a prybae to push the wrench counter clockwise using the drive train as the lever point. Easy!

Pegasis thanks for the link, is that something that is hard to get to? Also, do all three of these need replaced or should I just start with the one that you sent me?

Does anyone know the part number for this center diff-lock transfer-case switch that seems to go out? After searching around quite a bit, this old thread seems to describe my problem most accurately. My diff locks just fine, goes into 4L just fine but no lights in the dash light up. I think this switch is the guilty party here and I want to replace it.

Thanks

Today I just noticed the same thing happening on mine. I heard the clicks from the dash, but the light didn't come on. I tested my rear diff and it worked fine. I figured that if the rear diff is locking, than the center must be working. after about 5 minutes doing slow figure 8's the light came back on. I guess I should engage it a little more often, pretty sure that the PO never engaged it at all....

I have never had my center diff lock, I made a thread about it maybe someone here can help.

I don't hear any noise in the cabin near the relay when pushing the lock button or putting in 4L.

I tried doing tight circles in a parking lot it just to see if it locked and I couldn't hear it, nope no difference.

I bought a used oem relay on ebay hoping that mine was just bad, didn't change anything still have the same outcome.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone know if the center diff light illuminates when car is turned to accessory (like many of the other lights)? I'm pretty sure the diff is working, but no light on dash.

It doesn't on my 80 series and I don't remember it doing so on the 100 series either, but the Wife has it right now, so I can't check. Pretty sure it only lights up when called for.

I don't think it lights up on accessory on my 4runner either (4runner diff works fine). I suspect there's a problem with actuator sending a signal or something to that effect. I can hear relay click on switch and it feels like Center Diff activates.

The switch probably isn’t broken, it just has dirty contacts from not being used. The switch contacts will self-clean if you activate it with voltage applied. I hooked my switch up in series with a backup bulb, connected it to the battery, and depressed the plunger about 20 times. Switch started working on about the third press. Reinstalled it and it’s been fine since.

I will give this a try!
