Hi friends, getting ready to install the CCOT wheel well roll bar supports on a 65 titled 66 FJ40 but I have this bracket in the front of my rear wheel wells and not sure how to place the new supports. Any guidance? Thanks in advance - John

I always add a plate under high stress areas like that. Rollbar feet, tow hooks , etc. Usually mine has an attachment to the frame. Sandwiching the sheetmetal top and bottom with plates is better than just using 4 bolts with washers thru the floor. In this situation welding a plate to the stk support is a good idea. I might add a gusset from the stk support extending across the plate . I dont see an advantage of removing the original support and adding the late model support. They are both going to be attached the tub and not the frame. It's not like the rollbar is a pillar of strength.

You using the brackets seat belts? I have a Smittybuilt rollbar that used in my 68 for some years. It has plates that bolted underneath the top of the wheel well. It also has tabs welded on where the top of the tub is. It than had pieces of angle iron to secure it to tub. Work wheel in fall of 1975 when I slid off the road going sideways and slammed hard the passenger side when pavement ended.

This happened in South Lake Tahoe. Moved back to AZ about a month later. Insurance was unable to find parts. This how it looked as headed back.sure without the rollbar the whole top, passenger door and windshield would been destroyed.

Ok. Back to the drawing board. Yes def want to keep the old bracket if I can. Maybe I do the CCOT Bracket behind and then weld a plate to it under where the roll bar would mount like this? Thoughts.

That other bracket is doing nothing but getting in way of a bracket that would do something.
