So I'm finally installing a cb into my '89 pickup. But Gould I go with a 10 ft metal whip or a 5 foot fiberglass one? I've looked all over and didn't find much on these threads. The price difference isn't that much either ~$10

A steel CB "whip" antenna (actually 102" long, 1/4 wave) is very dangerous. They whip all over the place, especially as your truck gets tossed around on the trail. It can hit someone. Some clubs have banned them on trail events.

Even a 5' long fiberglass mast is going to be a tree branch magnet. 4' is plenty long enough.

Well my only issue is that I mud by my self for the most part. So that's why I'm trying to figure out the way to go. I know the longer more range theoretically but if a 4 ft fiberglass one would work and not kill or hurt anyone that'd be better.

Screw CB. Get your HAM license and don't look back. A good 2m will go further than CB. Add a decent repeater near by and you are potentially talking hundreds of miles.

I had a cb in the old motor home I had and so it was lying around, that's why I'm putting in a cb

Ya if you're gonna take the chance to go off by yourself (I would NEVER do this), then you need to upgrade to 2M Ham radio. CBs just don't go very far, I'd never trust one in an emergency.

Where I live the guys just drive jacked up trucks for fun and not for mudding. An as for the ham radio maybe ill go that way. Just a matter of $.
