I've got bad grrs, really bad and Its time they go away. Looking at my pinion angle its no wonder, according to my highly scientific app I am measuring somewhere between 8-9 degrees pinion angle.

So question the first before I go down this road any further: does this seem way high to you for a 50mm lift and castor correction bushings? I feel like this is the kinda angle you see on a 4 inch lift.

Second question. I am going to order new driveshafts because the slip joints on mine are toast and they clunk bad. I am going to go DC in the front and looking at this pinion angle makes me thing that its too high for even that. Again with the science machine I measured ~84 degrees on the shaft to the T-case.

6 degrees shaft angle and 8-9 degrees pinion angle.

I know they say to get the pinion angle between 1-2 degrees for vibe free out of a DC. Im 2-3. How bad an idea is it to go DC versus keeping stock shaft and doing something like plates?

While we are on the topic of plates, are they welded in or bolted? What kind of adjustment do they offer?

Whats the path forward here?

Is that a pinion angle in reference to the gravitational pull of the earth? or from one end of the DS to the other? Your pinion angles should be related to the total angle from end to end on the DS. Preferably the same on both ends.

My flanges are currently not co-planar. The T-case is plumb with the earth and the front is off by some amount. The app I used is just a simulation of a plumb bob.

While measuring the flange angles is a step in the right direction, you also need the driveshaft angle to make a proper diagnosis of driveline vibrations.

6 degrees from horizontal

If you can do without full time go part time, set your caster at 4° and go 100 mph all day long vib free;)
But sometimes we may need to travel on the front shaft alone as I did in moab last week after breaking a rear axle. I was happy that I was part time and had a front D.C. Shaft for smooth running until repairs were made.

:meh: Some have special needs also one does not need PT to run solo on a front driveline but it will come in handy if you have front end issues.

I have heard that before but OBDII does not lie. Just returned from another 1500 miles trip and never saw 200°.

@hammerheadfistpunch - Do you need FT in your area and have you ever driven an 80 with PT?

I like it, I live at the foot of the mountains and dig on abs. I just ordered some custom shafts for Tom woods, I get them tomorrow. Hopefully no more grrr

Understand the need, best of luck going forward.
