I used to always think that the threads or reviews on the LC complaining about the 'infotainment' aspect were too nit picky. Then I drove a base rental Tahoe this weekend. I am so used to sticking my iPhone on my LC dash above my steering wheel and hoping it doesn't fall over so I can navigate with Google maps that I didn't realize what I was missing. I plugged my phone into the Tahoe and was able to navigate with app actually up on the screen.

Why in the world can't we get CarPlay or why can't one of you smart dudes figure out how to hack / jailbreak the system so we can get in? I would like to be able to use Google Maps instead of whatever rando map application Toyota has in my ride.

I know it gets old to say, an $80,000.00 vehicle ought to have blah blah but it should. Ridiculous.

In 2007 when the first LC 200’s hit the market...the iPad was 3 years from coming into existence, and the iPhone just barely got the App Store for the first time.

Meanwhile... I have “Car Play...” ;)

I’m well aware of this. I used to own a 2008 LC 200. Car play didn’t exist then either.

Now I own a 2016. Updating the software versus developing a new truck are two different things which have nothing to do with one another.

It’s piss poor that Chevy base model SUVs have this and Toyota’s flagship model does not.

Nice iPad

It is a lot of work and I considered it, but changed my mind. For what it does compared to what I want it to do it wasn't worth it for me. I want my phone to actually integrate so I can use the lovely 9 Inch display, not touch my iPhone display and risk a ticket for touch the phone display when I need to change something I am showing on the actual display.

I love my LC200, waited 35 years to actually be able to buy a new one and I plan to drive it until its dead. For the price point $85k there is simply no excuse for Toyota to not upgrade it or to not offer some level of upgrade option.

BUT . . . I didn't buy it for the infotainment, I bought it because it IS a LAND CRUISER. Still deserve a better infotainment though.

As of 2018 model year...zero Toyota’s have it.

First world problems...or as @TonyP aptly noted...
:deadhorse:

Adaptation is what puts humans at the top o the food chain. I listen to music and media on my Apple device every time I drive my LC.

It doesn’t show up on the crappy Toyota head unit in Apple colors...but I’ll survive.

How?
By not being an amoeba. :)

Adaptation, man! :hillbilly:

The question / gripe is why they don’t have it and how nice it would be, respectfully, not a request for the history of homo sapien advantages over other species.

I already complimented your Apple device and decline to do so again.

Amoebas don’t drive vehicles. As such, they do not care about car play.

You can’t tell if the horse is dead for sure, either. The emoji is not clear enough.

Have a good night. I’m just trying to get by without car play.

Heh. I re-read my post and deleted it almost immediately. I guess you were already responding. It was too harsh o humor...

But anyway... This has indeed been beaten to death and has been brought up ever since car-play existed. Just seems like the time to complain is BEFORE buying a vehicle rather than declaring entitlement here. But meh... I’m prob just grumpy tonight. ;)

I can’t ever recall a time that I would consider Toyota as pushing the forefront from a tech standpoint. And is it really that much of an inconvenience? Really isn’t old school bomb proof capability/reliability the overall message of why a land cruised.

My 2011 grand Cherokee was way ahead of my 2013 LX I terms of technonlgy, voice activation, phone intigration but a terrable vehicle. If you want a computer on wheels buy a Tesla.

Toyota is a very conservative company. They are slow to adopt new technology. This has allowed Toyota to maintain very high reliability. The downside is that other manufacturers often bring out new technology before Toyota.

In addition, Toyota didn’t want Google and Apple to be able to collect tons of data from Toyota vehicles. That wasn’t because they are worried about our privacy, but rather because they are worried that Apple and a Google will be able to monetize that data and not Toyota.

Toyota has finally realized that better phone integration is a must have and that they are losing sales without it. So they have started rolling out Apple CarPlay as they refresh models. So far the 2019 Corolla, Avalon, and RAV4 have CarPlay. Other models will get it as they are refreshed. Because the 200’s HVAC controls are built into the screen and CarPlay undoubtedly would require a new processor, I doubt the LC will get CarPlay until we see the debut of the 300.

There is no word on the availability of Android Auto on Toyotas, but I assume it is coming in time.

I would like to order this panel, hook up manual AC controls, and simply replace the Toyota screen with an aftermarket car play screen. I’m not going to be the first to do it, but surely it could be done.

You can buy that in the US @dnh1 . There’s a thread on install and use experience.
