Car play - why don't we have it?

I would def be interested in doing this on my 19... Still trying to locate the thread with the install and review.

I've put quite a bit of research into these aftermarket radios. From what I've found most will not work with our radio system in the USA. We have the JBL equipped 200’s/ U.S. spec 200’s (otherwise known as VX trim to the rest of the world). Most of the aftermarket/android screens/radios have a specific audio controller for those modules that won’t communicate with our head unit. They are designed around base and mid level trim (Panasonic audio) trucks (known to the rest of the world as EXR and GXR).

My neighbor recently showed me all the "state-of-the-art" electronic wizardry in his new Dodge pickup. I was blown away, but didn't say so, as I didn't want him to think I actually liked his Dodge over our Toyota products. But sheesh, that thing can do stuff that Toyota engineers must dream about after a great joint or two.

If you are an Android tinkerer and don't mind good old 2 channel stereo, the grom vline should bring all the modern features.

Unfortunately it isn't perfect.

And it's $600.

Take a look at the reliability ratings for RAM pickups on Consumer Reports. Of the RAM, Ford, GM, and Toyota full size pickups, three brands have hideous reliability. One brand has good reliability — guess which one?

Japanese automakers have always been behind the curve adopting technologies.

The Germans come out with it, the Americans copy it and put it in everything from a Cruze to an Escalade, and the Japanese perfect it. While the “infotainment” in the LC/LX appears dated, it works reliably and will be reliable throughout the life of the car.

I wish no ill toward US automakers, but I feel like for years, US automakers have been plastering mechanically unreliable cars...with nice seats and cool tech...basically because they have to sell stuff one way or another.

-If they can’t convince you with reliability...and they can’t...they’ll try to convince you with flashy tech. How many Pontiac-Aztec-framed SUVs can they crank out under countless names after facelifting that disaster? Remember when they stuck plastic pieces on the Suburban body with a PLATE sized Caddy emblem and called it an Escalade (first gen)? It gets embarrassing.

Toyota impresses for the exact opposite reason. Reliability first...doodads last. The LC gets tagged with boring, outdated tech...but NO ONE knocks its mechanical reliability.

yeah the Rams are unreal. Many have 12 inch screens. The system is the most user friendly I've found. The coil spring rear end are nice too.
I had one and just ignored how ugly they were before the 2019's came out. I'm about to buy a Tundra since I need a truck. Not too pleased with the 4 wheel drive system. May look at some other trucks or modify it if possible.

As I mentioned. I had a grand Cherokee Trail hawk for 3 years before my LX. I got it as one of the last conversations I had with my grandfather was around Americans not buying American cars. Anyway it was ahead of my LX in terms of technology and user interface. I’s Always been my plan to keep vehicles for at least 10 years, I had it for 3. The interface computer died, the stability control module would overheat and shutdown when driving in sand (in sand mode...) the air suspension would go into failure mode in the cold (in Alaska) or anytime it wanted to. In that time they replaced the touchscreen and head unit, replaced the traction control module (which didn’t fix the sand issue), replaced the air suspension controll unit twice which didn’t fix it as well. I know 2 other GC owners here in town that had similar problems and the Ram shares many of those components. Anyway 3 years in to the Jeep saga I gave up and got what I wanted in the first place a 200 series.

I don’t have a Tundra...and no opinion...and I’m curious what you’d change in the 4WD system if you could. Splain, Lucy? ;)

It only has part time 4WD.
