yeh it looks pretty comfortable, will be nice to be up off the ground to, we had a bear in camp last year, the wifey will be a lot more comfy up in the air, I wont have to worry about her shooting at me:p

no worries on the hijacks. all good. great to hear some have decided to give it a try. you can't go wrong with the price point for what you have.

there's gotta be way more than one factory for these tents. and as mentioned before, it boils down to build quality and requirments, they can make them cheap and they can make them quite decent. the other tents i've seen and read about are using thinner fabric and plastic and/or steel hardware...the one i have has all ss hardware and a very stout and long ladder.

never did get the chance to get the annex room in, it's kinda winter now, lol. just didn't have the time. will post up as soon as i do and also after i get the awning mounted up. i just can't wait till spring!

agreed on the earlier comment about a thinner platform to save weight and jus pitching a tent on top. i was going to make a simple base for my existing tent with hinges...it could work and it'll look ghetto, but totally doable. there's a fella with an fjcruiser that did one on his, i saw it in other forums.. looks functional, but longer setup i recon (pitch the tent, then haul it up on the roof).

anyway, fun stuff!

just thought i'd share this vid a friend made (in his 81 toy pickup) after a snow run a couple weekends ago. my rig is on around 3 minute mark and onwards.

didn't really notice the RTT on top. it was a day run so it wasn't opened for anything.

fun fun. hope ya'lls in the south are enjoyin the heat!

They're good tents. Same as most others currently out there. Might even be the same factory making them all. I don't regret mine at all. I am making my rack this weekend and should have it mounted next weekend.

I dont think you will regret it, I like mine, did andy give you a good deal.

yep, don't worry danadog, i think you will like it! and TWO too huh?! nice!

well, spring is here and i'm itchin to get this puppy opened and slept in again! i'll get that awning mounted too (just been busy) so i can post more pics and get the rooms set up! my kids are gonna love camping even more.

One for my 80, and one is for a friends H1. The tents and rooms arrived today, I expect the awnings to arrive by Purolator tomorrow. I haven't opened them yet, but plan on it this weekend perhaps. I have a EMS exhaust, Slee rock sliders and some 35" BFG KM2's to mount first ;)

oooh, that's gonna be one sweet expo ready 80! labrador eh? been wanting to head up there for some time then down to the rock.

do post picks here when it's done! won't mind at all!

Romey, is the zipper pull on the inside of your tent cover? My friend and I installed both tents tonight and it appears the travel cover zipper that snakes around the 3 sides is made incorrectly on both tents? Or we are totally doing it wrong!

I had the same issue so I ran the pull tab off the end of the zipper and flipped it over.

uhuh, same thing! lol. flip over on the other end.

takes some practice to get it down pat. i stand on the swing out arm/base of the 80 to get higher on the roof to reach the ladder before retracting it.

the upper steps of the ladder is where you adjust the length, not the bottom, the steps lock in from the bottom up (forgot this the other day).

hope set up went smoothly!

Here are a few pics of mine as soon as we put it up on the roof. I am quite impressed with the value of this setup! I haven't mounted the awning yet or tried zipping on the rooms. Maybe next weekend. I did have to sit in the tent and smoke a cigar to get the musty smell out though ;o)

"I am quite impressed with the value of this setup!"

this is exactly what i've been talking about! (just look at all the "name brand" competitors and their prices!).

yeah!! looking good man!

btw, diggin your rear swing out!

I've got a question for all you RTT guys. Would you recommend them for people heading into their " golden years " 60 and up. Going down and up the ladder at night, seems to be a pain, if you know what I mean.

Thanks, Ron

Yes and no. If you are not planning on going the RV or camper route but still plan on going out into the backcountry and not paved-pad camping parks then it's great. But if you need the more luxury and are not able to climb, then no way. I honestly could see when i'm in the later years that the ladder would not be fun.

I'm building a 55 for the backwoods, but like the idea of being off the ground. Tent camped my whole life, just not sure about that ladder thing.

Thanks, Ron

just wanted to share these awning pics now that i found some time to finally get it on. tried it on our delica while i was setting up our thule stuff to carry more stuff and our paddle board.

pretty straight forward. the bracket is adjustable along the channel in the back of the awning/frame. just so happens that the L brackets can slide into the thule load bar. didn't have the tools to drill holes in them at the moment. so as a temporary install, i just used a strap to pull/hold in the frame. it's in there good. then got me thinking of a quick release way to move it to the land cruiser with different load bar widths. or i can just drill one hole, slide the bracket through and just use one bolt...anyway..

zipper side faces down, unzip and undoo straps, and unravel awning. 2 poles on the corner are wrapped in and 2 more poles are tucked in the back which pull out and support the sides if you choose to use the awning room. didn't get a chance to set that up, so next post hopefully. comes with rope and pegs to secure and you're ready to chill in the shade. set up in minutes.
