yeah, he's just sold out. last time it was $1450 CAN for rtt/annex room AND awning with zip in room. smokin deal.

was watchin canada day festivities in the parking lot and had this puppy set up, it was definitely a head turner and conversation piece.

anywho, just picked up a shorter thule roof box that i plan to mount infront of the RTT, it's gonna be a tight fit but i think it'll bring mileage back to almost normal... will post up. gotta shimmy the rtt as far back as i can (won't affect how the back door opens)

cheers.

If only Thule made a roof box-like hard shell cover for these RTTs.
It would make these so much durable and faster to deploy.

Any feedback from those who recently purchased these tents ?
and will they be available again anytime soon ?

just a mini update after i shimmied the RTT back a few inches to add a thule box infront. it barely fit with enough room in between to open the zipper and get access to open the thule box (which i got for 80 bucks). it's looking like my mileage has returned to normal too!

the box is blocking one rod to hold the window awning up, so i just jimmied a strap, it works.

nice access to roof box from the window too!

i added aluminum U rods along the bottom of the box to give it more rigity as it sticks out. no problems on the highway and i get an extra sun shade!

what's nice about moving it back is that i can get to the ladder and the zippers around easier and it's made set up time that much quicker, gettin good at it too. i took it to a park to air it out after the torrential rain we got and it was bone dry inside.

Damn, i typed this all up and then hit reply and it said my token had expired!!

Anyways, shorter story than i typed last.... I purchased a RTT off of expedition portal. It was a tent manufactured by a group that makes camping trailers, Campa USA. The tent was sold to me without a "travel cover", so i knew i had to get one. I called ARB, Mombasa and other brands since my tent is the same dimensions as their models and then i decided to call Campa and see what they had to say. THey were great and got me in touch with their supplier directly. I told them the dimensions and they shipped me a travel bag made of VERY sturdy material.

With that said, there are a couple of spots where the ladder is folded away that has some wear showing from the wind flapping the material while i drive. So for that i would say the only way to avoid that is to either make sure the entire cover is pulled VERY tight and strapped down or a hard shell case, which IMHO is just not practical for these type of tents.

My only complaint is that during cold weather, the material gets very stiff and it's very hard to unzip the cover. In the warmer weather it's never been a problem.

My cover was $225.

nice, cool shots awlteq!

i'm sure there's a range of materials being used for these and similar tents, even though some think they're coming from the same factory (which i doubt). the cover i got is quite durable and zips/opens fine in winter time. if anything, i'd just add another layer just for added sun protection and from scratches if running through the bush. another thread talked about a heavier truck tarp/cover over top.

with my mileage virtually back to normal, i might just keep this rtt on year round but maybe i'll get another cover made to slip over top of the other one for added protection, maybe have loops around the edges and just join them underneath with bungees.

then i'd just open every once in a while to air out and inspect (takes very little time) AND it'll motivate me more to do more offseason camping like late fall/winter/early spring instead of just mostly summer campin.

My Mombasa has extra material at the ends of where the ladder rides.

I may have said eailer to use silicon on the zipper on a rag but after talking to my old boss (who has a lot of years experience with canvas and zippers) he said it makes them too slippery and could cause them to separate. Just wipe down with a wet rag every now and then.

Well i knew it when i purchased the tent. It was used and from a member on expo portal. So i was able to negotiate a little knowing i had to buy the bag.

A couple more from the whipsaw this week

haha, nice set up dude! how's your awning holding up? or i just can't see the rope/pegs? or is the other pole goin across the side helpin it stay up? never tried that yet.

40's lookin nice with that on top. was thinkin of tryin on mine but i don't have a hard top and i'd have to jimmy up a frame/roof rack for it with the SOR family soft top underneath... does it feel tippy?

Thanks, I like it. The awning is self supporting and would only need stakes in a stiff breeze. It has arms that extend out from the truck. Can't figure out how the room goes on. There are no zippers in the awning. It must velcro to the bars I guess. Haven't tried it yet.
