look, i'm happy to flip my new truck with the FRP top and to flip an old steel topped 70, all in the name of science. but to have me acquire and flip an aluminum roofed vehicle is too much and i just wont do it, sorry gents but thats a bridge too far.

Point is that your photo above of the green truck is not a steel roofed 70 series, but is actually an aluminium roofed Land Rover.

clint79 made that point very clearly, i was hoping to mask my ignorance with humor, guess that did not work.

no biggie either way, you seem to have bought a great rig so post up some more pics and vids.
i love dune running!! it is almost like snow running without the cold.

I park my forklift on a fibreglass roof I have. Seems not to bother it to much, forky weighs about 3 tons.

I did cut the uprights off it.

Steel bends elastically until you hit the elastic limit, then it goes into non-recoverable plastic deformation.

Composites exhibit, to me, strange elastic plastic curves depending on multiple factors. But for a given weight of composite it is generally stronger than the same weight of steel, particularly in tension.

I am prepared to go toe to toe with any of you on elastic plastic theory. Even Wayne :)

nope, i will leave the FRP haters to debate this one with you...

welcome to the discussion.

Dear All,

In an effort to make a real contribution to the discussion I've managed to roll the truck with the FRP roof and it survived just fine, a few minor cracks in the roof, some dents to the body work and a broken wing mirror is all.

After elegantly completing her 360 roll in the sand she started up first time and we were back on our way. here are a few pictures taken on the night and the next day.

Nobody can imagine the quanitiy of sand which ended up inside the truck, 4 days later and i'm still digging sand out of my ears, especially the left one.
