I think I found the front breather in the rear breather, but the rear looks a little strange with a braided hose line going up into the body. Braided line tells me this is something else (brake line and union clearly shown).

But can someone tell me if I’m looking at the breather for the rear as well as the shorter little capped off nub for the front. Many thanks.

Yes that’s the breather. On the rear it’s the one off the top.
@shawnfj40 so on the rear, its the braided long line, right? Does that exit through the rear pan - or just under it? Ill take a peek later. Was going to upgrade with an ARB 2 line breather or DIY version.

Yes the braided line was added on. Should be the same little breather cap as in the front. Its a hollow threaded tube, dual purpose, breather and brake line union mount.

EDIT: Just saw that you have a 82, braided line does look factory. Earlier models have just the cap.

That’s how my 82 rear was, and terminated with a valve just below the floor pan. It was a braided hose before I replaced it

A little overkill for a braided line, but Im sure it for protection. Many thanks!

I have one with the OE braided hose laying on the shop floor if someone wants it. Call the shop to follow up.

Part number for the 1/79+ hose is 42306-60040 NLA. It's not a steel or stainless steel braided hose. More of a rubber hose with a cloth fabric braided on the outside.

I have an 3/82 tub and frame in the back of my RV parking. It still has the rear and springs attached. Has the bracket on the end and while unbolt can see while the folded over tab to index the position the bracket and threaded hole are on the frame.

Thanks @Living in the Past - this is great reference.

The hose was there so you could play ‘Submarine Commander’ and drive with the rear axel at Periscope Depth….so why didn’t the put one in the front?
Hahaha love your humor @Mark Jennings - I’m a big naval fan myself.

I plan to put some extended lines into the engine bay so I can do a little more water crossing without fear of making chocolate milk in my diffs. With the lift, anything over 2’ deep and I’ll be close to the front breather.

I spent my younger years on SSBNs, SSNs and graduated as a MMCSS….so I can identify with adding a ‘Snorkel’ to your diffs.

I love the color of your rig, mine is beige, just older. And no snorkels 🤣🤣

Aren’t those original breathers one way (out) flow only?
