Paint schmaint....what was this about a heated suspension bed?

Pardon my ignorance, but I just read this thread with a lot of jealous and two questions. Do you have to cut the roof substantially to install the CampTeq? If you do, does it not affect the torsional rigidity of the vehicle and overall strength of the chassis (especially in a rollover)? Very cool stuff I actually think I saw a CampTeq 80 last Friday night driving down 6 in Golden and my girlfriend (who now notices every LC on the road) asked what was up with the roof of the it, and I said "hmm looks like a pop top conversion I'll have to check Mud for that!

Ahh I see the ridges on the roof now! I actually thought it was some kind of space age insulating material for underneath the bed Aside from the obvious concerns of strength and cost/benefit, I do think it would be pretty sweet to chope the roof and have a true pop top setup like a VW Westfalia or like this setup:

All other CampTeq owners have cut there top. I saw not need to cut mine living in the South-West. In the beginning I wanted the option of removing my CampTeq. Now that it is on and is almost undetectable in every way I dont every see it coming off.

You can also use the top as a viewing platform unlike the fiberglass version pictured above. It is very well built and has zero deflection even when throwing down mad dance moves on the top.

Indeed would like to check yours out in person - I might drive up to Expo to see it. Although I think I will need one for a 100 series unless someone can economically fabricate rear air for an 80

Highly recommend it. During EXPO had a 325# guy climb it onto the top of my CAMPTEQ (try that with your RTT) with no problem.
Built stand offs so it could float on the side without damage when set up.
Sets up and collapses in secs.
Stores down to 27" and 16 lbs

I have received several PM with interest on how I heat the bed/mattress. The heat blanket goes under the fitted sheet.

I use only Blue Sea 12 volt outlet on a 15A breakers and never look back.

I have found this set up very comfortable for 20° camping. The bedding I use is a top sheet, fleece blanket, and a 2lb 40° synthetic bag as a comforter on top when its 20°.

The heat is powered by my home made Mini Power Supply

Great minds think alike, Phil I bought one of those at a truck stop earlier this year thinking it would be great for an annual trip I do every January. I wasn't sure whether I'd sleep under or on top of the blanket, though. You sure you don't want to cut your roof?
