Even though I am in Charleston I am wanting to start taking my kids camping. Doesn't matter if it is in the Upstate or Lowcountry Using a tent of course. Where can I go that may be somewhat remote or at least not having to park next to a camper.
The more scenic the better.

Dont know about the low country. Here in the upstate you can go to the Horsepasture, Mustergrounds, and Gorges State Park. All are apart of the Jocassee Gorges.

Have y'all heard of John Rock?

Yes. I've hiked John Rock many times in Pisgah. Very cool place. Hatchery is right there by the camp sites.

I don't believe there is any car camping around John Rock. You might have to walk a couple hundred yards. If you go up FS 475 I believe there are numerous car camping spots off the gravel road.

Pink Beds are another cool place.

It's been years since I've camped around Johns Rock but IIRC there are some camp spots not far from the parking lot. You will have to carry your gear in a half mile or so. Check with the Ranger Office on that though.

Mt Mitchell is another cool place to camp. The tent spots are less than 50 yards from the parking area. Really nice bathrooms. And the few sites are spread out pretty well. View is to die for.

Another hike in place is Graveyard fields. I've camped there a few dozen times. Waterfall is not far away.

A really secluded place I like to go is Burrells Ford rd off Hwy 107. If you go over the river there is a road to the right that has a couple drive in camping areas all right beside a stream. There usually no one around. The fish hatchery is just up 107.

Sandy Ford. Great place. It's all car camping. I usually camp on the SC side due to wanting a hike in area but the GA side you can drive right up and in the river. lol There is an awesome stream crossing on War Woman Rd. Probably 200 ft long and several ft deep. You can camp right beside the car on the river.

There are also several dozen campsites on the GA side of the river all of which are real nice an secluded. Remember to bring a gun.

This is Sandy Ford.

Is the gun for people or animals???

Or both??

You tell me.

Yeah that's the Georgia side. Sad. If I had a portable compressor and sand blaster I'd go remove it. Though it would probably reappear.

It's like night and day between the GA side and SC side. SC side has no trash nice fire rings and all the trees haven't been hacked on and cut down for wood. There is no way to drive into the water on the SC side.

The GA side is a different story. You could drive right in the river if you wanted. When JP and I were on the GA side we got out and picked up a bunch of trash.

I wouldn't have any problem camping on the GA side with friends but family is a different story.

There were about 10 cans of water and 10 cans of fuel sitting on the other side of the of the roadblock. I have no idea what was going on there. Could have been shine or something else entirely. We only stopped to take the pic and then we moved on. It didn't look good whatever was going on there.

the spot we camped at on carolina beach for the low country boil was sweet.

Just drive out on the beach and set up camp. Tent/sleep in car/whatever.

be sure to bring a fire ring. $20 a day to stay there. Portapottys but no running water.

It was great but the little ones kept getting sand in their eyes which can be irritating to both them and me!

water was a little rough at the point so the kids couldn't play in the water because of current.

further south in the island would have been better for the kids to play in the water but would have been too much traffic.
