I wanted to wait a little bit before posting this here. I bought one of these tents recently: Kirkham's Springbar Tent

I got kinda fed up with dome style tents and wanted something old school. I'm pretty sure the design hasn't changed much over the years. The stitching and canvas quality is incredible. The price is a little steep, but they are made here and to order. Very roomy. Hopefully it will last me for the years to come.

Very cool, Alex. Although heavier, canvas is so comfortable to sleep in in all weather! I'm sure you will get years of great use out of that tent!

When I set the tent up for the first time, the shear weight of the canvas made me realize how much of a beast the tent really is. The springbars and uprights are pretty hefty steel too. Definitely not for backpacking. The tent is supposed to be able to withstand significant winds...not that I plan to camp in a hurricane.

Thats some great old fashioned safary tent, nice!
That's exactly how it felt when I walked inside. You can stand up in it, walk around, sleep comfortably. Pretty nice.

I know Oztralia doesn't have the lawsuit happy society we have, but this would be cool as hell

Change the hammock to a bunch of strands of surgical tubing, add a leather or webbing sling, and instant water balloon launcher or pumpkin chunker

And good antenna mast for HAM too

Thanks to @Beau Diddly for the tent :) - finally was able to mock it up today after waiting for a couple of non-rainy days...seems like it will work out very well.

Does that have a pvc piping or zipper on the outer (front) leading edge?

Intrigued by the tagalong tent that connects to the awning. Havent gotten an answer if it will attach to the arb like it will rhino rack sunsetter awning. Advantage of no weight up top and somewhat light/small. Cons it doesnt look like it is freestanding which may be solvable but more important is size of space required to setup..

I'll look inside the tent tomorrow and post up. No zipper or pipe on the outer portion awning wall, though.

So no zipper/pvc piping on front of awning - if that is what you are asking - I can be daft... If you are asking about the tent portion, the inside of the tent has an aluminum tube running the length of the top front for the most part. The top portion of the awning is sewn onto the top of the tent, and there are no extra zippers or tubes on the outside of the tent of where the awning attaches to the tent on the top front.

Awning is mounted up. Heading to the overland rally in a few.
