Holy :censor::censor: !!! I can see it for the smaller OHV's like the Razer's, etc., sand buggies, rails, etc. but a street legal vehicle 'commonly referred to as a Jeep' etc. is just overboard.

Sounds like if we are on an offroad trail that all people in our vehicles will be required to have a helmet on. Absurd.

Good things are vehicles are registered as wagons.

Mine is and always has been registered as a truck. It got me around paying the luxury tax that had recently been imposed back in the 90's for imports over a certain dollar amount. Trucks were exempt. Passenger cars were not.

Don't know if that distinction exempts Landcruisers, 4x4 pick up trucks, etc. from this BS or not though.

I'm sure they would look at a 40 series and consider it a Jeep type vehicle.

Can you imagine all the 40 series on the Rubicon being required to wear helmets because of this? You would also not be able to take the kids along unless their feet touch the floor, their backs are planted in the seat and they can reach the grab handle.

Agreed!

As long as you maintain the registration required for street operation then you are not considered a "recreational off-highway vehicle" even if it says "Jeep" right on the fender.

Notice that there are two similar but distinctly different terms being thrown around: "Recreational off-highway vehicle" and "off-highway motor vehicle subject to identification."

The helmet provision is for a "recreational off-highway vehicle" not for "off-highway motor vehicle subject to identification" (which includes "jeeps").

The short excerpts shown on the link are taken out of context and refer to other sections in the vehicle code. You have to look at all the sections referenced to get the big picture!

No helmets for me!

UTV's and side by side only, 1000cc or less and already being challenged. Sounds like the bills author is having a real quick change of heart.
