Pricing

This brings up an interesting question.

How much would you sell your 100 for and does that effect the price of the other 100s that are for sale elsewhere?

I ask because I asked a friend at work with a 99 with 225k miles if he would be interested in selling his LC for 11k. I asked him because another friend was looking for one. He replied no and that he would not even take $15k for it. He said he knew his truck and it had been to good to him and there was nothing better out there in this price range.

Which got me thinking, what if 50% of 100 owners thought this way? I am in the same boat, I would not sell my current 2000 LC with 160k miles for $15k.

no way am I selling my truck for under 25k, I dont care. The truck itself isnt worth much, it's the parts/labor put into it by now. Nope, not selling. Will I eventually swap everything to a new truck? maybe. Will I send mine to a junkyard after? Naa I'd crush it before I junk it.

On the high side - not really. With the internet and relatively few 100-series for sale at any given time, people are willing to travel for the right rig. If your price is too high, they'll just bypass you. As more and more 100-series come onto the used market, your over-priced rig will just take longer to sell.

I would not sell my current 2000 LC with 160k miles for $15k.

The good thing is no one can force you to sell. The bad thing is people will only pay what they think it's worth, not you. If you over-value your car, it'll just be yours for a lot longer. OTOH, it only takes one person with interest to buy it...

Hello all! New guy here. I've been looking at new vehicles since June, and I finally found a decent one in my price range. It's a one-owner 2005 LC with 92k, asking price from dealer is $24k.

I'm kinda wary about buying a vehicle so close to 100k, and the price could be a little lower in my opinion.

I guess my question is, is there anything I should worry about in a 5 year old vehicle so close to 100k?

Also, on the carfax, the county it was registered in, tuscaloosa county, alabama, was listed as a FEMA disaster area during Katrina (Sep 05). I'm fairly sure there wasn't widespread enough flooding to damage vehicles there at that time, I have friends that were living there then, but could I use the fact that "disaster area" is listed on the Carfax to haggle down the price a little?

The dealership selling the vehicle is a Land Rover dealership, so I'm really hoping horrible reliability isn't contagious :D

Anyway, any advice given would be greatly appreciated, and I apologize for my newbie questions.

Of course you can use the "disaster area" on the Carfax to haggle the price down. Most people check Carfax on used vehicles, even though it isn't really very usefull, and many people would probably stop looking at the vehicle with that on the Carfax. I guarantee if you buy this LC and decide to sell it the people that look at it will use it against you when bargaining and some people won't even look at it after seeing that on the Carfax. Also, make sure the 90k service has been done - it is a big service on these vehcles.

I would go over the interior with a fine tooth comb and make sure there is no rust in any strange areas, ie anywhere in the interior. Turn on and off all the electronics, etc. And then use the carfax info against them to get the price down. I purchased a 2000 in Dec 2005 with 100k and all records for 18k. Now at 160k and not looking back. Make sure the 90k service was done. Does it have navigation?

I'm starting to think it's too high. After all, in spite of mileage, it is eight years old and who knows what sort of things are worn from age if nothing else. There are too many rigs out there for sale right now and in many respects, I'd prefer a simpler LC of the same vintage.

Man... I am still looking for a 100! These things tend to sell before I get a chance to look at them much less make an offer. Hoping to see a few this week and we will see what happens. I am looking for a 01-03 with as low miles as I can get. If anyone has any leads on any on the Phoenix AZ area that are not already on Craigslist or Autotrader, I'd be interested in hearing about them.

Just picked up an 03 LC for 21,500 with 108 on the ODO , slee lift, GT seat covers and weathertech mats, new tires and two sets of rims. Very well looked after. I think that is a very good price but I think the owner was happy to see it go to a good home and it was a convenient sale.

24 for an LX does seem a bit high but not ridiculous. At least not for around here. It would have to be absolutely MINT though.

Good luck with the search, if you can I would try to buy one from someone here who is an enthusiast. I looked at way to many "Soccer mom" bombs.

99 vs 2000 land cruiser question

Just wondering which one would be better in say fairly deep snow a 99 or a 2000 land cruiser, assuming the 99 has the locker. I know they removed the locker from the 2000 models but gave them atrac. Just trying to get a feel on it before I buy one.
I assume the land cruiser with the AWD is going to be turning the tire in the front and back with the least amount of traction just like any other AWD vehicle. Does that sound right?

That sounds wrong. ATRAC forces power to the wheels that have traction. It tries to imitate the function of a locker, while maintaining the advantages of open diffs.

I just found a 2002 with 87K for $16,900. It is in excellent condition but is going to need some brakes soon. I am very seriously pulling the trigger on this one. It has been an AZ vehicle all it's life. This might might go down in the next day or so.
