Hello from south Louisiana.

My search for a 100 is over and would like to see how I did. I paid $5200 for a two owner 1999 w/ 301K. First owner had Toyota service done with the timing belt at 110K. Second owner had the starter, tie rods, brakes/rotors done. Few dings here and there and the leather is worn but no rips.

I am not driving it until I change the timing belt and water pump. The front bearing could be change out as well.

2002 vs 2003 LC100 Price Points?

Quick question for everyone - Why do prices on LC100s jump so much from 2002 to 2003? Its easy to find a 2002 under 14k, sometimes around 12k. Looking at 2003s, the price jumps to somewhere near 20k. Any idea why? I dont see much different between them, except a slightly different shifter console and a few other minor cosmetic tweak.

Any insight is appreciated, thx!

I went with an 02 for Saving $. By02 the trans issues are nearly gone. Most 02 LCS have nav (which I didn't want) but I was able to get iPod and sat radio connected no prob. Almost all 03 and newer have nav anyway. I drove an 03 and it did feel more modern, but I kinda like the old school look and feel of the 98-02 interior. The 5 speed would be nice but honestly to eek out an extra 1-2 mpg would require a ton of driving to offset cost. I was new to LCS with my purchase so I thought I'd invest a bit less in case I found the car wasn't for me.

My 2cent

Normally I would say a 2003+ for the 5-speed. But what about a 2001 with a SC vs a 2003?

My experience with SC in hot regions don't fair well. Ever check the EGT on your SC80 pulling Eisenhower?

If you need the extra power go 2006-2007 and get a VVT motor.

I was never at a need for power even when pulling #5000 up grades rolling 35's.

'98 LC, ARB accessories, should I buy?

I have always admired LC's and recently sold my '04 RR HSE. I miss it, but do not miss the headaches and cost, mine was even covered under warranty for the entire time! My fiancee wants to get a new car and is looking for an SUV to replace the RR. In short, I found a '98 LC with 88k on clock, ARB bullbar, rear bumper, spare tire mount, roof rack, side steps/sliders, XD9000 and new Cooper Discover SST. I am not sure if it has lockers or not and there is no lift. The truck was never off roaded and looks like someone literally ordered the entire ARB catalogue. It is white and looks to be in near perfect cosmetics condition. There are no records with the truck as it is at used car lot. They are asking $17k and will deal. The fact that my fiancee wants to drive the truck daily reminds me of why I am marrying her. Anyway, just wanted some thoughts on fair pricing understanding that will most likely need the 90k service. Any advice on 100's that are not in the sticky threads would be great. Thanks again for your time.

Thanks Phil - I heard similar advice from others. I passed and will continue to look for a good deal on a 2003 for my daughter. She wants a white one

here is the ad if anyone else wants to look at it. Seems like a fair deal w/o the SC

Toyota Land Cruiser 2001

Sounds like my wife.

I would say that's a good deal. With that low mileage it's a reasonable but high price without all the farkles. With all the farkles its a steal if they are things you would do anyway. It is a dealer so you should be able to knock off a grand or two.

So the dealer will let it go for $15,750. It will need the 90k service soon. It is a two owner truck from FLA that was serviced at the dealer for 12+ years. Just got the last 4 years of records from a dealer and the only major thing it had done was a transfer case at 83K. Other than that it was brakes, oil changes, filters, etc. It has the locking diff, the dealer sent me the window sticker too.

Pending picks I would jump on it.

Those are nice (not cheap) tires as well. Five of those would set you back about $1300

What to buy? 100/fj/gx

I browse these boards often, don't post as much as I should but It has come time to sell off my 97 4runner 5speed for something more modern and larger. I have read several topics on the 100 vs FJC on here, most of them are people pissing and moaning about the FJ not being a real land Cruiser and I really don't care about that.

My delema is between a LC100 for 25-32k spend.. or a FJC manual Trans 23-26 k spend or a GX470 with 23-28k spend.

I want to purchase a LC100, I think its the better value of the group here by a long shot. size and feature rich it takes the cake... But here is where some of my priorities get derailed on this decision because of personal preference / lifestyle and garage accommodations.

I love having a manual transmission and will I get board with an automatic? Not sure, been too long since I have owned one to remember... My 07 FJ was stolen from me in 2008, that was my last auto..

I am an avid offroad driver and wheel my rigs 3-4 times per month during the summer. The rear locker and size of the FJ fit down our narrow trails here in the woods of the midwest at off road parks like Cliffs Insaine Terrain and the badlands of Attica Indiana.

I am a Car stereo nut, and integration into the LC100 is challenging and a PITA for Sound Quality reasons.

The FJ feels more sporty than the LC100 and the GX feels about dead in-between the 2 of them.

The FJC is less $$ to modify. For the price of my 30k LC100 I can have a supercharged FJC.

I have a family, only one kid, another one hopefully soon, so the LC is a far better family option for comfort and accessibility.

I want to put 35's on the truck for wheeling, all of these trucks can fit them, but with modifications. Do I want to modify a LC100 to fit 35's the way they should fit? 2.5" lift and 15-20mm body lift?

Of the LC100's I have wheeled with when I owned a 2007 FJC 5 years ago. The LC100 was a very capable rig, but not as capable as my FJC was (before the s*** storm starts, rear lockers are really helpful in the mud around here, where Atrac alone can be a let down) All of the Off road angles, Departure, Approach and Break over are better in the FJC. The weight of the LC100 is not helpful in steep hill climbs / mud either.

If I go 35's on the LC100, I will need an aftermarket rear bumper to hold the spare, which means the truck won't fit in my garage any more. It will also be to tall to fit in the garage. the FJC will fit.

The Fuel Range of an FJ with 35's is horrible, 200-210 miles tops, what are you guys getting from a full tank in your lifted LC100's with 295 or larger tires? We travel from Chicago to STL often and its 315 miles each way. Not having to stop for fuel would be nice!

Does anyone have any insight that I may not have thought of yet? Who else has debated this, or has owned both, their thoughts would be helpful.

thanks for your help!!

Joe

Greetings - this is my first post here. My wife needs a big SUV for work and I am drawn to these nice rigs. Party because of their reliability, partly because they are just badass.

Just started looking and I checked out a 1999 LX470 w/ 101k on the clock. It is at a dealer and as of know I dont have any records, that may change once i get the autocheck/carfax whatever report. I took it for a spin and everything seemed OK. Granted, I dont really know what I am looking for and have never driven one of these before.

It was quiet, although when I really revved it there was some extra noise (exhaust leak?), I think the brakes were towards the end of their life (soft pedal). I also noticed that when i turned left there was a squeak coming from the front right wheel area. The air suspension worked and all electronics seemed satisfactory. The only other thing I noticed was that when I was playing with the transfer case, if I had the transfer in "N" while the vehicle was in park, took the vehicle out of park, and then put the car back into park, there was a grinding noise.

They are asking 12,900. Seems like a good deal because of the mileage... but it may be a good deal because there are issues? How much of a headache could this be?

There are plenty of gents on here that had FJCs and traded them in for 100s because of the room issue. I went camping/wheeling with 3 other adults and too much gear a month ago and we barely fit everything inside (while still being able to see out the rear) my 100.

For $30k you should be able to get an 06 100 with the extra power so SCs probably aren't a big concern.

The FJC is only 1 inch narrower and 10 inches shorter than the 100.

Why can't you fit a 100 with a rear bumper in the garage? Length? What about if you go with a rear bumper that shortens the frame like the BIOR HC or 4X4Labs? That'd also help get your angles closer to an FJC. Also, I think some people have been able to fit 35s underneath. 295/75/16s might be a better all round option. Fits underneath, don't need to regent etc.

This is totally personal preference, but when I looked at FJCs and 4Rs, I didn't like the low seating position and lack of visibility. The 100 and GX put you in a much more commanding seating position.

There doesn't seem to be much support for GXs off road. Why not look at 4runner v8 limiteds?

I have 285 (33") tires and my highway has mileage hasn't really changed. I still get 15-17mpg highway. Around town in stop and go, the bigger tires made more of a difference.

I bought mine because it only had 80k on it. In retrospect, getting a clean newer one would be more important to me. Low mileage doesn't mean much if it hasn't been well maintained. Mine didn't come with maintenance records so I've had to do all the preventative and past maintenance anyway.

That price seems fair but bot amazing. How is it rust wise?
