Hey guys, I spoke with Mike last tonight, we are a go. People paying by check/cash instead of Pay-pal get an 11.5% discount instead of 10%. You need to add $50 per swing-out for the upgrade spindle. Website is not up to date on this price increase. He no longer carries the light weight spindle. He is fine with the angled steel rungs and semi gloss power coat. We just need to give him the ratio of paint vs. gloss.... 40 / 60% etc. Looks like there are three guys in So Cal ordering a bumper. If we all have them delivered to one location we can save on shipping. I got the ok from my work to have them all delivered here, we have a fork lift. They will usually discount the shipping if you have them delivered to a business with a fork lift. Really does not matter if they a raw vs. painted shipping will be the same. Shipping costs are calculated on weight and delivery location. Mike would prefer we get all our orders in by Feb. 6th with 1/2 the cost of your total bumper as deposit. Estimated completion is middle of March. Could be sooner, could be longer, it all depends on the power coater. They can be a couple of weeks (or days) turn around time.

All orders and deposits are done through Mike at Bump-it. Call and talk with him first and decide how you want to configure your bumper. After your discussion send Mike an e-mail with exactly what you want. He will e-mail you back with your total cost. Mike will then either send you a pay-pal request or you mail him a check.

Mike does have one new feature you may want to consider. It’s an adjustable tire carrier holder. It allows you to move the tire up, down and in or out. Mike builds these carriers for a 35 inch tire. If you are running a smaller sized tire you may want to move your tire down and in for better visibility. You can then move it up before a trial run for better clearance.

I want to get a 100% commitment from everyone before we start contacting Mike and placing orders with deposits. This is the no turn back point, other guys are depending on your commitment from here on out. Everyone PM me “100% in”. After I get all five (or more) of these. I will PM you back to get your orders and deposits in.

PM me with any questions or if you want in.

get the zinc coating as well. worth the extra money.

semi-unrelated...

Mike built a front bumper for me in the fall:

Very pleased with it thus far, and Mike is a great guy.

Great idea on the square ladder rungs, makes future upgrades and options easier.

Tare,

I am about to get a new rear bumper and wanted to get your thoughts on this. Why are square rungs better? The one I am looking at has round rungs, but I'm sure it can be changed. Thanks!

I some how never noticed this on the website. Apparently, the second swing out is $300. That's not on the site. So the ladder is $300 plus $250 with the upgraded spindle.

Now, I'm trying to change the options to keep the price down. Otherwise it's as much as a slee.

I'm thinking:

Bumper: $1000
Tire carrier with adjustable height and depth and upgraded spindle: $600
2nd Swing out with upgraded spindle and Ladder with squared rungs: $550
Wheel well tabs for mud flaps. I was going to get them capped but that's another $75.
I also wanted to get extra spindle covers so I could remove the swing outs but that's another $100
Zinc Coating and 40% Gloss 60% black PC to match Slee: $100

Anyone have ideas of how to remove the swing outs without spending $100 on extra covers?

What exactly are the $100 covers?

Something to cover a spindle would be easy to rig up. Just keep the spindle greased put a small close size diameter piece of pipe over the spindle or a piece of pipe that bearings sit in. At the top of the spindle where the threaded portion is and the castle nut screws on there is a hole to put the lock pin in. I'm sure you could drill a hole in a piece or pipe and run long cotter pin or something through to hold the sleeve on or something. Another thing that might possibly work is some bearing buddies like people use on boat trailers. The spindle is just a metal shaft that the bearings ride on - nothing crazy complex. That said - spindle kits alone can be expensive. Upgrading lots of little things do add up and it's easy to see why custom bumper options can be pricey. Mike still has really good pricing overall. It's not cheap to produce and add a second spindle, swing arm, latches hardware, etc. You can always just get the arm and add the attachment like ladder later on...

Also - I've never needed an adjustable tire mount on my sing out. I've always had a 35" tire mounted on mine + hi-lift jack + antenna and I've never had any visibility problems in the rear view mirror. Just something else to consider that may add to the cost of the standard swing out tire carrier.

I posted a photo or two of mine you can search for. Will take a few better ones tomorrow if it's helpful. Here's one that isn't great:

Also mikes standard powder coat is really nice! Love the texture and satin finish.

Thanks for the info! As far as adjustability, I'd heard some people complain, or Slee bumper owners gloat, that the tire jiggles around on the tire carrier. So I asked to make it adjustable for depth/backspacing so I could really wedge it up against the carrier. Mike came back and showed me his carrier adjustable for depth and height. And it looked pretty nice. I'm not sure if you can adjust just depth without paying extra or not.

Klaus - I'm the same regarding the extra spindle and ladder. I told Mike I'm going to do without those extras as I'm still debating getting a roof rack. I hardly use the Inti rack on my 80 series so not sure the extra $$$ is worth it unless I'm certain I'll use/need it.

Also sent you and Tare a PM about powder coating on Mike's end vs doing it out here in SoCal once we get them. I don't know anyone in the area that is a reputable power coat shop that'll do it for a reasonable price but maybe one of you do?

OK guys I did not get anyone backing out so we are a go. Call or e-mail Mike and place your orders. PM me that he has your security deposit and I will update the list.

You guys may be able to do without the extra spindle cover sleeve, second swing arm or other accessories but I would have the second spindle added welded and finished for future upgrades. It will be more of a pain to drill and weld another spindle in the future especially if you have it powdercoated. Just my 2cents...

I thought I wanted the ends capped and finished. Mike talked me into open caps for ease of cleanout. It looks the same from the side, perhaps a bit unfinished when standing in front and looking towards the rear. With them capped mud/dirt/salt/etc can accumulate back there, so you would have to be a bit more proactive in cleaning that area out. I think this one is just a personal preference/aesthetic choice.
