Sounds like you are leaving tomorrow. For two weeks in Dec-Jan I would suggest doing the Seven Sisters route. Pacific coast, south of El Rosario, north of Guerrero Negro. Enter at Punta Santa Rosalillita, then head north along the coast (carry lots of fuel and water).

Second choice would be San Igncacio Lagoon (they might have a few grey whales), then south to Scorpion Bay, then east to the east side of Bahia Concepcion to the north end of the peninsula.

Cheers, Jon

thank Jon, both route looks interesting. we are thinking of the first one. heading north after Santa Rosalillita looks very interesting.

happy holidays!!!

You are probably out in Baja now. I hope you are having a great time.

Just in case someone might use this info:

I have done portions of the seven sisters 8 times over the last 18 years. Great area for an expo rig trip. Many route sections in this area are quite isolated and would involve a long walk out if you have a breakdown (IOW, be well prepped). On one trip we helped out a couple guys with a dead battery that had been waiting for 10 days for someone to come by. Several fish camps exist on this route along the coast, but some are seasonally occupied.

Portions of the northern section of this area (e.g., near Punta Canoas) can be quite dusty with some of the dirt roads consisting of very fine powder (old marine sediments). Some people really hate this stuff. This is not that bad if it has rained a bit (and hopefully not a whole bunch), as it probably did around Christmas down there. This whole area has several east-west route options for getting from the paved highway to the coast and back, some of which are quite rocky.

Saludos, Jon

Bahia De Los Angeles

thanks much, for your suggestions. we are now in Bahia De Los Angeles camping at the achelon. we have decide no to do the seven sisters. it look really interesting but i think it will take at least a month if you really want to enjoy the area. we just do not have time for that we will do that another time for sure. thanks again:cheers:

To the south of you is Bahia Las Animas, maybe 35 rocky dirt road miles. That is my friend Patrice's favorite place in all of Baja. I like the camp spot at the very end of the jeep track on the west side of the bay. Very nice bay and not too tough to get to. The rocks that surface the "all weather" road heading south of Bahia LA can be sharp.

To the north of Bahia LA is La Gringa (about 7 miles north of you, popular spot for campers), but another couple miles north of that is a nice remote spot on the water where we camped last Feb. This spot is 1.87 air miles north of the very southern tip of La Gringa spit if you are looking at a topo map or aerial photo. Easy jeep tracks north of La Gringa to follow.

The seven sisters will be there for next time. I might go there in April...

Buenas suerte. Saludos, Jon

thanks we are back home

back from the short trip. crossed the border at tijuana, first nite just outside ensenada, near punta cabras a place called "longbeach" , then to san quintine camped at fidel's, crossed over to bahia de los angeles camped at archlelon, took the dirt road for 4 hours to san luis gonzaga camped at papa fernandez, puerto sito enjoyed the hot springs there, san felipe the road between puerto sito to san felipe was smooth as silk, crossed the boarder in Mexicali, home to los angeles, ca.

we had a great time with all the adventure of an expedition vehicle. in san felipe our accelerator cable broke, we tied a rope on the accelerator and drove home pulling the accelerator rope with my right hand till los angeles. in campos, california in 24F weather we broke down at the top of the mountain Nulla started losing power starving for fuel, manage to drive it to acorn casino and spend the nite on the parking lot. by 11am next morning we manage to fixed that and drove home pulling on the rope. here is our post on that adventure https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-24-volts-systems/679329-loosing-boost-real-time-help.html

thank western flyer and all, for all you suggestions, as you all know there is not one destination in baja. i just seem to us that every place that we ended up was a destination so we just stayed there till we felt that it was time to move on. the seven sisters is definitely a future destination.

Sounds like it was a fun trip! That toilet pic bears some explaining...assuming there's a reason for such a set-up. :D

it is a compound called coco's corner in the middle of nowhere in the backroad crossing from bahia de los angeles to san luis gonzaga after 4 hours on the washboards we stop here for a drink, i am sure others who frequent baja knows more

Looks like a lot of fun. You are getting the swing of classic Baja adventures, including your rope-accelerator trick. I bet Nulla had fun too.

My next planned trip is little-visited bay in the Sierra de Asemblea. I hope you are able to do the Seven Sisters in the future. PM me next time you are thinking of a trip down there is you want some route ideas.

Saludos,

Jon

7 sisters

We were headed to Todos Santos before Christmas and ran into some slow downs (broken phone with int'l plan, stomach flu, fracture in diesel injection pipe) and took the Seven Sisters as a consolation prize. It had rained quite a lot around Christmas and the roads were good if not a little muddy. Strong offshores actually hurt the surf but I got in the water anyway. Went clamming and made clam tacos. The stars were amazing. Recommended for your next trip for sure!

There is another picture (but it's really a tent picture) from this area in my rooftop tent review in the Exped Vehicles forum.

Best,
Jeff

Nulla would be recognizable from miles away. If I saw Nulla rolling down the 101 I would be alongside waving hello like an old friend and they would be wondering "Who the hell is that?"

No. 3: The Seven Sisters is a pretty cool area, huh?

thank jaxonm and western flyer, looks like that picture was taken jan 26, sat. that is the day we where coming back from pismo beach, ca. had a great time. thanks for the great compliments we have not had a nite picture of Nulla with those lights on, yes, seven sisters in baja california is on the bucket list, not sure but probably after alaska ...... thanks much:cheers:

Ya, I was giving them the wave, but as you can see it was pretty dark and lots of traffic. I don't think they saw me.

Yup, Saturday night. I was on my way home from the shop, working on my 60. Was bummed that I didn't take it home that night so you could see MUD family members :steer: with ya!

Wish I'd been in Pismo! I'd love to see this thing!!!

WesternFlyer, 7 Sisters is awesome... gotta get back soon but SF is so far away.

Nulla is a Horsey!!!!

sometime (not all the time) fun times happens when we breakdown. when Nulla's accelerator cable broke just outside of San Felipe, Mexico this was one of those moments. also shows the simplicity of Nulla to be an expedition vehicle. enjoy the short video.

That vid is awesome!
Any idea how the cable broke in the first place, was it rubbing on something?

glad the video works now. hard to explain but the cable housing was kinked and the cable was rubbing inside the cable housing . the replacement housing that was made by a cable maker is 2 inches longer to avoid sharp bend, if this cable brakes again which probably will never happen for the life of Nulla. but if it does the extra cable that i had made will simply insert into the cable housing.

Great vid...thanks for sharing!! I'm not sure if you covered this, but do you think the aluminum rear is lighter/stronger vs steel? I'm curious cause I'd be interested in doing something like this someday down the line. Thanks!
