Ok…. A little back story. Hundreds in the hills 8, 2018. We had just finished eating at a steakhouse in Silverton for dinner, might’ve been Natalia’s 1912. We walk out to the 100 and start her up, put it in reverse, no throttle. Turn it off and turn it back on, throttle is back. Chalked it up to a weird hiccup. That next summer in Vegas I turn a corner and attempt to accelerate and nothing. I pull over on the side of the road the her off, turn her back on, and we are good. Now she does this a couple more times over the summer. Clean the throttle body and haven’t had any problems since.
Lately I’ve had a few more problems. Rough idle (not sure if it’s related) and loss of accelerator when you get a heavy foot. She drops to almost an idle RPM. If you lift your foot slowly off the accelerator when this happens eventually you’ll get a response. So I ordered a new throttle position sensor. When It came in I looked at the part and couldn’t find it anywhere on the throttle body. Figured I screwed up and ordered the wrong part. Tossed it in the cabinet in the garage. Today I went to overtake someone on the freeway and she said not doing it. No acceleration. Tried to drive spirited on the way home… not happening.
Got on mud and started digging. 1 person said something about the TPS being on the opposite side of the Accelerator Pedal position sensor. So I started digging, lo and behold, there’s my part!! I can’t remember who said it but thank you!!!
Replaced and repositioned the throttle position sensor. Took for a test drive. Still not allowing me to drive spirited. I get on the accelerator and nothing. But if I drive normal all is good. I pull into the gas station and fill my tank. I was down to just slightly over a 1/4 tank. Start my truck and jump on that accelerator. She chirped the tires leaving the gas station… so I drove it like I stole it! Even on the freeway slowing down to 60 then jumping on it back up to 75. Had no issues.
Now I’m not sure what happened. Did the ECU need time to adjust to the new TPS? Did filling the tank solve the issue? So it’s more than likely a pump or fuel related issue? Did the truck just need to warm up? I’ll relay back in the next couple days with my findings.
Here are some pictures for someone else who might be having problems with the Throttle position sensor and Accelerator pedal position sensor locations!
Throttle position sensor is behind the throttle motor under the PCV valve and throttle body coolant hoses.
