I'll give you a call late this afternoon or evening.

Well let's get you comfortable on repeaters so let's set up a time to do so by the end of the weekend. Then you can also practice next Tue. night on the HAM net.

You are missing out on a lot by only using simplex, especially for any type of emergency comm.

How about Sunday afternoon?

Early afternoon would be best for me, I'll get a hold of each of you around 12:30 - 2:00.

Possible Camp Site

Found this on the web. Looks like it would work, Just outside of Park city a spur off the Mosquito Pass Road. GPS Coordinates 39°16'37.09"N 106° 7'51.46"W

Thanks Doug! I updated the first post with a link to Google maps, so please check and make sure this is the place.

Bummer. Check the CLC webpage and calendar. For weekend of September 21, it is the Benson Cabin/Lime Creek area.

It'll be afternoon for me. Get out of work at 3:00. Probably be a 4:00 leave for me. I was waiting to see if anyone wanted to leave Saturday, I could wait and leave Saturday morning and be the radio man for the group. Anyone lurking and wanting to possibly go, speak now.

Things have changed for me, I'll be leaving Friday morning sometime but not sure when I will be to camp.

Doug, I think the repeaters most likely to have success from that camp spot are Marc Badger Mountain, Colorado Connection (CC) Breckenridge, and CC Leadville in that order. Those would be memory numbers 20, 3 and 10 respectively. I have heard that the CC Breck repeater has changed frequency. I will try to confirm and post up any changes. We just need to set up times to check in, for example 4:00 would be good for Luke. Once I get to camp I can monitor the best repeater.

I was just up there on July 20 -21. I went up that road and there are some camp sites there. That is the road they run the burro races up every year and comes out before the summit but it is closed by a gate. If you continue on up the pass before you get to the London mine ruins ther is a road that takes off to the right that goes up to Cooney lake. There are some great spots up there too. There are some water crossings on that road that were 24-30" deep. Overall a fun road.

I'm OUT! :crybaby:

Sorry guys, but Jess just got back from her doctor visit and she could go at any minute. Doctor's sure she'll go early, so I'm staying here so I don't miss the little guys being born.

I'm sure if I don't go, he won't be born, but I'm equally sure that if I do go, he will be born. :bang:

So..... try to have fun without me! :steer:

Good choice - and good luck!

So now we know where your loyalties lie...

Good luck Travis !!

Cooney Lake camping spot sounds good to me.
I'm planning on arriving sometime after lunch. the 4PM radio check on Badger Mountain repeater sounds about right.

Leon,
On Saturday I'd like to hit BV around noon. I'm supposed to meet my boys at the Park so they can join us. for wheeling an camping on Saturday. Let me know if that timing seems reasonable.

Why not meet us in camp first thing?

Noon sounds a bit late to me but maybe Luke will chime in, he has pretty good time estimates for trails. My concern is getting a late start up the trails around St. Elmo. But hey, I'm up for anything.

I'd have a hard time saying without knowing how long it's going to take to get from the mosquito pass camp to BV. I'm guessing 12:00 is about right actually. Camping with the club at devils punchbowl, it was 10:00 before we broke camp and left. Takes a little bit for everyone to pack all their gear, break down tents, and eat breakfast. The early birds Sam and Sandy were actually the last ones packed, so you can't blame me for being a late sleeper on that one :)
I wouldn't worry about getting to the BV trails as early as possible, they're rarely crowded and easy to pass on. The jury is still out on which 4x4 I'll show up in, but if I bring my pickup and we have a stock 60, our best trail choices are pomeroy and browns lake. Iron chest and grizzly are out. Pomeroy is scenic with lots of mining history and not very long. Browns lake takes a while and gets to higher elevation, not sure what everyone's comfort level is, but Eric doctors wife hyper-ventilated over the shelf road situation. Might get there kinda late to think about taking that all the way up. Could also run through St Elmo, over tin cup, and out cottonwood. Pretty drive, not all that difficult.
