In my process of upfitting and overlanding outfitting, I have been looking at budget friendly roof racks. Has anyone used the Racketon or Arksen roof racks on Amazon? They both have 84x50 racks with 6" or 8" sides. Better option to a $1500 rack. Anyone?

I personally run a Gamiviti rack that I love. Price wasn't too bad especially given that it's been 100% reliable. I've had several people sitting on it, I've carried tons of stuff on it. I've permanently mounted things to it. It's beefy, low profile, looks good on the truck. The powder coat has suffered through two years of my abuse and is still perfect. The owner of the biz is a dyed-in-the-wool Cruiser guy who's active on Mud. There are other rack manufacturers that are part of the community too, like Bowfin. I like giving my money to folks who are "one of us".

Prior to that I had a used Surco aluminum safari rack which held up pretty well (except the paint, which was flaking). The Surcos are reasonably affordable especially if you find them used. They sit kind of tall, which I guess is kind of a "vintage" look. That's about the cheapest I'd go and still feel comfortable with the reliability. All of the above use 6-8 attachment points at the drip rail on the roof. Beefy.

I'll say this ... I wouldn't want to be out in the woods or hills and have my $150 roof rack fail. How are you gonna get all the stuff home? Not to mention how are you getting the broken rack home? That sounds like a real bad time. Is saving a couple hundred bucks worth ruining a trip, especially considering you'll then have to buy a decent roof rack when you get home anyway?

There are a few good/great racks for our Cruisers, you will NOT find any better than a Bowfin rack. And the owner of the company is a long time MUD member…more importantly…someone you can trust. @dogfishlake

Fits 60 & 80 series Cruisers. Maybe others too.

Just out of curiosity, what does shipping run on something this big ? Gotta be pretty crazy..?
Do not really know, but not likely too bad. Probably shipped in a box & loaded in a manner that you have to put it together. And like @CruiserTrash says, you don’t want to…and in reality you can’t trust your gear with a cheap rack.

Most anywhere in the CONUS has been $100 or less. In the last few weeks, I have seen some jump to $110 but that is the highest so far. My website (Shopify) calculates the shipping and I get in on their discount, which is really good.

I just looked at those on Amazon, and honestly, I think a good used rack specifically for your 60 would be a LOT better choice. If you live in TX and out of the salt, good spray paint makes an old rack look just fine, and you will get a lot more peace of mind.
The Bowfin and several other styles use laser cut/bent side rails with extruded cross bars having slots for mounting items. The other way is the fabricated tube style that, when fabbed by real craftsmen with skin in the Cruiser game, is awesome. Done in China? not so much.

Look at the people selling the racks, just like looking at the people selling you a Cruiser. The enthusiast that puts their heart into it is the one to go with.
There are a ton of really good options for new, and quite a few used pop up in the MUD classifieds.

Good luck!

Thanks. And I tend to agree with this as well. I surf for used ones, old school porthole basket-style, pretty much everyday. Just stumbled across the Amazon versions on some searches and got intrigued.

The Conn Ferr brand of old is def old school, but they seem to be pretty good roof racks. My 60 "Chunk" had one when I bought it. It was really solid, but due too conflicting brand interference, I had to sell it :):)
