This may sound rudimentary and I'm sure you checked all of this, but are you sure that your tank is not out of welding gas, the valve is open, and there are no kinks in the hose supplying it to the machine?

Just came across this thread. Really like what you are doing, but would like to see the photos.

All the old photos links are dead. Any way to get those back up?

Unfortunately my crazy ex found some pictures of old girlfriends on my photobucket and deleted my entire account. I lost pretty much all my old build photos.

Big thanks to John at WKO. Sliders are pure beef. Paint and install this weekend.

wow those sliders are beastly. What materials were used? Mainly wall thickness.

2x3 main rail and 1 1/2 square legs. All 3/16"
.120 wall 1 3/4 tube (you can get HREW or DOM)
Mounting plates and gussets look to be 3/8" plate.
Cat protection is 1/2" plate!

As stated WKO is whiteknuckleoffroad. John is the owner, fabricator, and great businessman. Excellent communication and smooth transaction.

Daaaaaamn!!! You're gonna lower your CG at least 6" when you mount those! :D

Haha, seriously. I'm all about weight reduction on this rig, but I decided that sliders would be the one place I wouldn't worry about weight. I just wanted them to work. John's were the beefiest I could find in my price range.

That's going to be sick. Are you going to run Lexan for the back "glass?"

I was contemplating getting a thick piece of lexan and drilling it for bolts. Then I could make the entire back one big window, and it would be removable. My other thought is screwing snaps into the rails, tailgate, and roofline, and getting a vinyl cover made with a window sewn in.even another idea is to install a piano hinge along the roof line and building a big rear hatch that could open up.

Now that I have the sunroof out, I'm debating just cutting the whole center of roof out all the way back, to get rid if the structural ridges, and welding new sheet across the roof to make it flat and close the sunroof at the same time... If that makes sense. Nothing I do is going to look factory, and I'm not too worried about it being ugly. It is the frankencruiser.

Anyway, it isn't supposed to rain for a while, so I'm going to ponder things a bit more.

Loving the "fastback" ... and while the snap off canvas top thing seems cool, I don't know if I could live with the lack of security. Maybe I'm paranoid. I bet if you were able to fab the "piano hinge" thing, you could make an interchangeable frame with snaps that would let you run something more secure (metal frame, Lexan window) most of the time... and swap it out for a canvas back when you don't need to worry about security?

Yeah. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward something solid. I have nothing of value in the cruiser at the moment. But eventually I'd like a good GPS, and a decent stereo. Plus it would be nice to be able to leave my tools in the rig parked somewhere, and not worry about it.

Dannnngggggg that thing is gonna be nasty!
