Great to catch up with you and the crew! Glad you enjoyed Sand Hollow, it's addicting ;)

Looks like an awesome time, I really wanted to come run a trail with you on Monday but I had a coworker call in sick and I had to cover his shift on Monday.:frown:

No worries, next time
We ran the Maze trail on Monday, its a hand full especially for a 80 ( not sure if you're into that ) but totally doable.
I made it through unassisted and no damage

Nice wheels, the 39s look real skinny now.
By my math you lost .75" per side 1.5" total.
Could you feel a noticeable difference in stability this last trip?
Im sure it turns better though.

Lets start at the beginning.
Stock wheels are 8" wide with 4.5" back spacing.
The Battle Born wheels are 10" wide and 3.5" back spacing.

My math put the wheels out 3" a side over stock, or 6" wider overall. To me that's a lot !!
The new Walker's ( I did not take a picture ) are 8 3/4" measured at the same points as the BB wheels and 3 3/4" back spacing.
So the out side of the rim is now in 1.5" each side or 3" Narrower overall all compared to the BB's. I did not catch the edge of the rim at all this list trip, where I was constantly getting hung up on the BB. 🤷‍♂️
So if the walker's are 1 1/4" narrower that would pull the center of the tire over 5/8" plus the 1/4" less back spacing puts the center of the tire in 7/8" over the BB's
To me this was a win, the out side edge of the wheel in now in 1.5" but the center of the tire in only in 7/8"
There was no discernible loss of stability or traction :)
To my surprise the steering was easier with the Walker's, the small bit of rubbing is gone in the front, it's not getting hung up on the rims any more, the rock ring are not smashing into every rock they see and it fits on the trailer again.
And IMHO they just plane look better and I'm not talking about the style of the wheel, I'm not into that wide wheel straight up and down sidewall look, leave that for the mall crawlers.
To me the change was about drivability issues, and the walker's solved them a Win win ;)

I was talking tread center line.
8.75" wide... every .25" makes a difference.
Good, all the changes were in the right direction for you, glad to hear it.

A update on some of the resent mods

I installed this kit on the front, very nice improvement over the stock setup. before I would have to stand on the paddle on some of the steep drops in Sand Hollow. I could lock them up much easier with this setup. ;)

The Puma onboard air just plain kicks ass. On this Last trip I ended up airing up two tire's for one buddy who's tank went empty and a few others, I heard more then once that it was fast.
On the last day I filled all 4 of my tires while my buddy with his York was just starting his third tire, I had 3 of kenn 38s filled up by the time he was done filling his 39.5s
Again very happy with this Mod Thanks @LandCruiserPhil

I finally had a chance to try out the in cab winch controller. I have to say it was very handy to have when you passenger tire is 4' in the air and your looking at the sky.
I was stuck in the Bowl on Milts mile ( it scared the SH**t out of me I thought I was going over) after the third try I asked for the hook, I was teetering in the air, it was so nice not to have to get the controller out and plunged in, just reach down and hit the switch.
You can't put a price on it when your in that situation PRICELESS !!!

You were right there at the tipping point.
Did you look at the level gauge to see the angle?

Hands Down your rig is one of the most capable non 3-linked 80 series rock crawlers out there.
What sets it apart is the low lift big tire combo the 39 has to offer along with the lowest rate coils available.

No I did not have my level gauge handy, My butt o miter said we had reached our limits.

Thank you for the kind words' the low lift and big tires do help as do the soft springs, but there so much more that went in to this Reg to make it perform the way it does. literally hundreds of hours of work and ten's of thousands of dollars ( I hope my Wife does not see this post ) to make it what it is today.
And one really important aspect of this build that gets over looked is the weight literally everything that was done to the reg weight was considered.
I'm pretty sure it's one of the lightest built 80s out there.

Then you need a driver with balls, I took two more stabs at that obstacle before I asked for the hook and that's no joke about being right at the tipping point ;)

How much does your 80 weigh? Have you had the chance to scale it? Mine is under 6000 pounds loaded with tools, no spare tire and driver. Definitely the key for capability and reliability.

Your build is one of my favorites on mud. Love that you took the time with all the inner fender work.
I’m gonna try to clean up my front inner fenders after my 3 link and hopefully find some new to me green fenders to be replace my bad driver issues 😂

Definitely one of the cleanest 80s if seen too.

I weighed her after I finished up with fittings the 39s
She came in just under 5600 lbs with a full size spare on a a bead lock, Hi lift jack, 35 lbs tool kit and 25 lbs recovery kit.

Your 3 link is looking sweet
Do you have a build

Also got these, I needed new rubber pads for my flat link.
When I was At the Factor 55 web site I grabbed one of there rope pulleys to go with the soft shackles
The old set up left is 10 lbs
The new on the right is 1.5 lbs.

No build thread. I have one for my fj45 troopy but I suck at keeping it updated…5600 is pretty light! It’s crazy where you can put these soccer mom wagons when you keep them on a diet…

I’ll have to weigh mine again after this round of work is complete. Might be a month or two before I can afford the rest of the parts..

I just went through your build thread. Nice job, I like your style!

I've only been to Sand Hollow once for a couple days. My first "real" wheeling trip. Some of it scared the crap out of me but, I'd do it again.

My wife Has always been understanding of my addiction, She has been wanting raised garden beds for some time now, and last year the Gophers ravaged her garden.
So it was new planter box's with with Gopher wire on the bottom X2.

We employed some driftwood form the beach to make steps around the beds.

Sassy making sure everything was getting done correctly

I busted out the tub bender and made some frames for the 4x4 hog wire. Trellises for the tomatoes and peas.

The trellis supports act as spreaders for the 4x4 witch are also buried a foot into the ground these box's are not moving. ;)

Patricia is very happy with the way the project turned out and will continue to to pay my credit card bill.
I'm also working on acquiring a sibling for the 80 so keeping the wife happy is imperative!!!!
I will also add that the prices of material have gotten stupid, the cost of material for this project was over $ 2500. The cost of the Redwood 2x12 was $5.50 a LF. or about a $100. a board CRAZY
