Did original 1977 fj40 have power brakes and was the master cylinder always on the firewall. The reason I am asking is there is a hole in the floor below the brake pedal. The hole looks to be maybe 2 inches in diameter. My truck has master cylinder mounted under the floor with arm for the brake going thru a hole in the floor. Not sure what this hole is for.

High beam switch.

It almost sounds like either an extra hole or your cowl/floor isn’t original.

Do you have have a fuel door? May be an early tub

How about a picture. Sounds pretty funky to me. o_O

For USA market OEM stock FJ40's:
Did original 1977 fj40 have power brakes? YES
and was the master cylinder always on the firewall? YES

The brake booster and master cylinder were next to the clutch master cylinder.

The OEM brake pedal was mounted the same as the OEM clutch pedal, with the rod going straight out through the firewall to the booster.

I agree that pictures would be of utmost importance.

Parking brake cable hole.

Which begs the question: Do you have a parking brake?? Pull handle under the dash??

@Tlb
Yes but it goes under the trans cover to drum brake attached to transfer case.

@reddingcruiser wanted to know where the cable leaves the cab. I don't know the details of your year, but my 73 FJ40 has the brake cable penetrating high up on the firewall. Please post a picture of where your ebrake cable passes out of the cab.

The picture of your hole looks exactly like an ebrake arrangement.

I think that hole is for something else. SOR lists parking brake handle on the dash up to 79. That hole is too low on the firewall.

Correct routing for '78 FJ40. Metal retainer and rubber grommet. Pic from other mud post. Someone has a picture without the floor mat. My '72 has been retrofitted to this style.

Shyte, I learned something new 😁

@Tlb

This is where the Ebrake cable penetrates the firewall on my 1973 FJ40. As indicated above later models moved the penetration down behind the brake pedal.
