Straight R&R?

No slight notch or couple welds here and there, none of that, right?

Worst case; complete failure on the trail... in other words, any adequate size spare shock will be enough to limp out of whatever jam contributed to the failure, there’s nothing unique or specific about mounting per se, that’s a safe assumption right?

100% bolt-on. It would be easy to go back to a standard shock, even leaving the remote reservoir mount in place.

I have a thing for the old timers.

The Museum is on my list. Really want to spend sometime there but I want to do so in good conscience. Maybe shake some hands in the wonderful state of Utah.

CruiserOutfitters needs an email registry on the webpage.

I am watching the thread. I'll call CO once the cash reserve builds.

Come get some BP-51's installed and I'll give you a personal tour of the museum too!

Seriously? cruiseroutfit

I have been planning on dumping cash into the bodyshop to fill the ‘OEM’ roof rack, rear heater holes and drop a new or sublet the front and rear glass first... but the wife and I delayed a trip to the Redwoods this summer because she figured it would take-out some $3K from the build budget but opportunity and desire help determine logistics...

It would be cool.

I kid you not, the wife has given me two years to get this rig built and start out to witness the country otherwise she said she’ll have divorce papers served.

So long as the offer stands I just might take you up on it. Utah is a stretch for a lift but I am driving down to the San Fernando Valley to pick-up a patch for the headliner. So its not really about cost with me per se.

Logistics are interesting. Pretty cool people are sure to be found along the way.

I'm seriously considering these shocks. I might just make a trip to UTAH to pick them up! I am debating between these and the icons. I currently have icon 2.0s and like the digressive valving on my heavy cruiser but want to upgrade to a 2.5 body given all the washboard I drive on. Anyone have thoughts on how they compare to the icon 2.5s?

I also understand that these shocks are more adjustable but seem more complicated to adjust. Icon just has numbered settings. As I never have tuned suspension before does OME have a guide for how to go about it? Does anyone have recommended settings?

Dan,

As soon as I get the rear sorted I'll be doing some quick testing before heading West for a week. I hope to have some settings for my rig both as a comfortable daily driver and also a more firm daily driver. I'll then look to add the Alu-Cab Gen III RTT and get some setting dialed in for street and trail with the added weight up top.

Since we are the first 80 Series to get these, I don't see any information out there with regard to settings except for the Coil Sprung 200's. Hope I'm missing it, but I can't find it.

More adjustability, more complex I guess but that was my reason for getting these. I ask a lot of my truck as a daily driver and overland truck, so having the flexibility to add weight and adjust is something I'm willing to work on / work the bugs out.

Best regards,

John

I've not personally run the Icon on an 80 so I can't comment there, plus there is exactly one 80 that I know of in the US with BP-51's installed so driving impressions are fresh.

As for adjusting. The BP-51 has adjustable REBOUND and COMPRESSION on the body of the shock and it is numbered (scaled) 1-10. Not sure how it gets any easier than that?

Sounds easy enough Kurt except I have never adjusted shocks before and am not sure how these two settings would change the feel of the truck. I need a primer on how to adjust shocks I guess.

This month I'm switching from 33s to 35s and throwing on the stiffer OME rear shocks. I was also wondering about sizing. What shocks would I want to get depending on my hub to fender measurement. I do not have flares

The 80 specific fit kits come with a dampening setting guide based on your setup (winch/bumper, weight, etc) and recommendations for adjustment. We recommend starting with those settings and making small adjustments there based on handling and preference. Many set it at the recommended spots and never look back.

Got my fronts on tonight and just waiting to get some rear hardware sorted.

Looks very tidy!!!

Do you want to buy mt alucab? I hear campteq is going again!
Dan,

Sorry - When I said add the RTT, I meant put it on! I already have one..... So wanted the Campteq

Keep me posted on your progress with that Dan....

Best,
J

I "helped" @bryson adjust his BP-51's on Saturday. (meaning, I rode with him and gave my opinions on how it needed to change ;) ) When we started, it was VERY cushy. Nice soft ride, but pretty wallowy and lots of body roll. Also some pretty decent secondary bounces after hitting a bump. We played with both compression and rebound damping, one end at a time. Adjusted until it got too stiff, then backed back off. Adjustments are easy with a strap wrench and the included spanner. (other than burning elbow skin on hot exhaust...that looked painful!)

All told, we probably spent 20 minutes driving a little route, adjusting, driving again, adjusting, etc. Not bad at all, and you can radically change how your Cruiser behaves.

I'm awaiting further offroad testing--but since these should also bolt right onto my SAS 100, I have naughty thoughts in my brain. :D

I can't wait to take another spin in it

Any yes, they'll work on my SAS 100 too. Let me know when you're ready :D

Got a link on your build?

Inside joke. I self appointed first right of refusal on iLean's 100 and jokingly call it mine. He does have a full build thread
