it`s not a speaker ;) it`s the glow plug display " glows" red , if you preheat your glowpugs before starting ( you have a special position on your ignition switch for preheating)
Interesting how you guys down under fix your hats in the cabin :D
Cheers
Peter

oh ok cheers, do you know how long it will take to get it to glow? (ive had it in glow position for 30seconds and nothing), yeah it was a free and easy way, eay to remove aswell :)

dont know but the person i got it off got in from the west and he thinks it may have been an animal or tree, should see drivers side :( ( will get photo tomorow )

That looks pretty good. The little glow plug controller has a bit of wire wound in a coil, which glows red after the glowplugs have been on if memory serves me correctly, it lights up after 5 seconds or so. It's easy to undo the round nut that holds it to the dash and have a look at it, it might have shorted out. But if your glowplugs work, you can get away without using it.

Completely incorrect I'm afraid. On a 1980 rig, the glow controller takes about 15 seconds to start glowing. Only vehicles with Superglow (1983~4 trucks) have a 1~2 second glow period, and the glow controller coil is replaced by a lamp.

If the coil isn't glowing after 15 seconds or so (easier to tell in the shade than with direct sun on it), then one or more of your glow plugs is probably burnt out - or the controller has been bypassed and serves merely as decoration on the dash.

Check each of your glow plugs for continuity with the bar detached from the tops of the plugs. No continuity = dead plug. if all the plugs check out, then start examining the wiring around the controller and check that it also has continuity.

Ok Sir, maybe I`m wrong.
The old Diesel Cruiser pre 1981 (3000ccm 4cylinder) smoke like an old steamer - depending on the outdoor temperatur- when you start them.
So I installed a switch* that allows me to glow my BJ43/1980 separately and I let it glow so long as it`s necessary, so my truck don`t smoke!
My controller a red lamp starts in a millisecond .

*my starting procedures( depending on the temperature: I pull the switch, wait ten seconds, than I start the engine and step on the throttle and drive without any smoke.

been thinking of where to mount an axe and shovel:idea: then thought about mounting in onto the to hooks/supports that the windscreen sits on, Would this be strong enough?
ec17.jpg

oh also another question as cant find on net, does any one know what this is
ec14.jpg

as you can the left pin isnt used, the car starts and runs fine but when you put a lead (beleive its the old wire off the filter light on dash:hhmm:) it cuts the car out and the filter light comes on, the lad i bought it off had another fuse and control box put it, when filter light comes on this fuse usually is blown (it hasnt blown yet)

cheers and thank you

Can you show a larger picture. It is hard to tell where this is tapped into the block.

I think the original oil pressure sender is on the bottom left of your picture and is not hooked up.

If you pull the wire, does the gauge stop working?

The big one is the oil pressure gauge. The second blade is an earth, if gauge works dont worry about it. The second sender in the background is low oil pressure shutdown. When hooked up and working it gives the engine 14secondes to pick up oil pressure before shutting it down. Good idiea to have it working.

Yep. On my 1980 Hj45, I used to count to 13 seconds and it would be bright red. Also, as dumb as it sounds, don't poke it with your finger when it's red...

The fawker is hot.

cheers guys and yeah its only when i connect a wire it shuts the car down, may plug it into the other far left one to see what happens... the big shiny one is above the stater motor, sorry cant get photo as the car is at mechanics

hey everyone, just wondering if any of use know where i can get an original snorkel for these?(the ones that look like a keg) or know how to make one?

cheers
