that looks like a mini truck p/s box.
I had to run out to The Mule to check.

That's a pretty common swap, and is a decent one for the budget, but if you want to run larger than 35" tires someday, it'll be a little underpowered.

I don't see any lines running to that steering box?
Am I missing seeing them?
That is location of 55 box, so if it is PS, maybe the PO installed 40 or 55 PS from '79 or later.
Can you post a pic of the lockouts used on the front axle hubs? It may be that you have a later 55 or 40 front axle on there w/ discs.
40 & 55 front axles are interchangeable.

Took another look and I don't really see any lines coming out of it either. Hmmm...

The lockouts are "Aisin". Chrome with black ends and the turning piece red. Tried to upload a pic but the iPhone ap says no... I'll add a pic to the online photo album and post the link tonight.

I love seeing women owning pigs! My wife is looking forward to driving mine, I told her she'll have to have patience..... alot of patience

Aisin Seiki Corporation.
they make toyota's hubs, carbs, trannies and t-cases. Aisins are the best hubs out there.

Here's a link to a pic of the lock out hubs I maxed out the attachments for now. Oops.

Everytime I look at the wiring I get frustrated... The pig has hit its monthly allowance, so looks like it gets to sit a little while longer. The list keeps growing of things to fix/do, but the wiring is the most frustrating. Definitely a case of someone thinking they would do the pig a favor and throw some cheapo connectors in under the hood. I'm gonna need a diagram and lots of solder.

Chin up!
The wiring in any 30+ year old truck is gonna suck, nothing against Toyota, but the very long line of stupid previous owners, it just takes a little time, effort, a good soldering iron, FSM, and a little love.

Every time I get frustrated wrenching on The Mule, I usually find myself thinking about the closing dialogue from "Serenity". First Rule of Flying, by Mal Reynolds - YouTube
It's pretty damn true for a Cruiser owner.

Red dial Aisin hubs make me think they came from an FJ60.
As has been said, they are great product, sourced by the factory for later Land Cruisers. Someone may have modified your original front axle to accept discs and later birfs, or they may have swapped in a later front axle. There are nuances as to where the brake lines were plumbed.
I can get you a PDF of wiring diagram when I get back to a specific computer

Good to know, and a wiring diagram would be awesome! Nothing seems to be hooked up. I have cut wires hanging from just about everything... the distributor, alternator, and a few small bits that I'm not even sure what they are. Thanks for the help.

No worries...

Not sure what year Piggy this applies to!

PS: spend some $ on a FSM (Factory Service Manual) as they will have many sub-sets of the wiring diagram broken out for your reading pleasure!

^^^^^ What he said! X2 ^^^^^

The FSM is invaluable, a great resource.

Cheers, Carlos

Ok, I'm slowly finding my way around the wiring, and getting a little perturbed at whichever PO hacked it up. Question: my gut told me that there should be more than one wire coming off the alternator, and the wiring diagrams confirmed this. I fount the WG WL and WB wires but they're not plugged in. Where do they go?
