Welcome, under "Thread Tools" drop down that shows at the top of each thread is the selection "Subscribe to Thread". You can select instant email notification if you want to get covered up with emails.
You can access our subscribed threads from your user CP or from the apps that are available for the forum as well. Trust me, your addiction will fuel your working knowledge on MUD pretty quickly.

You can also add the thread as a Favorite or Bookmark, in whatever browser you are using. Doing it like that is like choosing no notifications, which can be a good thing... 
OK, the info in this thread is awful. There is no "Thread Tools," menu anywhere? Secondly, "Help" section? where?
Well, maybe the info is awful because it's a thread from 2012, several major forum software changes ago. Now there is a "watch" button at the top of the thread to add it to your watched threads list and notifications. The help and announcements section is still present, in the bottom of the social forums subsection that hosts chit-chat, trails and events and such.
