I put some miles on it today and found it to be getting about 21mpg. So far I haven't done anything to adjust the carb and at only 143miles it isn't yet broken in. Time will tell. I put in a digital thermometer to see how things are going with the coolant and found it goes up to 185 them drops to 176 and stays there. If course where I am reading it might mean it is reading a little cool as it is next to the thermostat.

That's pretty dialed in I'd say! The FSM has 2 options for tuning the 22r carb. One is 2.5 turns out of the mixture screw as they came from the factory and that will maximize mpg but will result in a rough idle. The lean drop method will run the best but will cost about 2 mpg.

2.5 turns out of the mixture screw
Yeah mine is just at 2.5 turns. I got a vacuum gauge to do further tuning but haven't gotten around to doing it. Being that my next most efficient driver is 16. I have some flexibility on the mpgs haha

That's looking real sharp. Nice job.
Thanks. those are distance shots that have been cropped to not look like distance shots. had a few people get excited seeing me drive it around today. I only had to honk at a few to get them to wave lol.

I wanted some in-bed tie-downs so I used some angle iron and used the bolts that hold the side panels to the middle section. I didn't think the sheet metal would like the kind of ratcheting I plan to do.

Take the rough idle.
I have soo many rattles to chase down. Right now it is likely a little rough but doesn't seem too bad. Because I used headers, the stock heat shield didn't fit and the one I made is pretty low quality...noisy against the frame and probably even hitting the header when hot. I need it to stay rough for a while until i get everything nice and buttoned down at least. I'll pull a plug at some point and see how they look before I get in there to start messing with something that seems to start and idle pretty reliably. Although it is idling a little high at 1k.
