Nice work, Chris.

Get that thing ready to wheel in April!

- Brian

Was just looking at your thread, yours is coming along nicely I see!

I'll be happy if I can get the winch and locker done by then, but hopefully can squeeze a few other fixes in there too.

Good work!

Thanks Oaks!

My Aussie is on they way....now I just need to flip a coin on whether to do the 2-lo mod and put it up front or stick it in the rear diff.

Haven't made much time to work on it, b/c it up and decided to snow 8" here and was less than 40 in the garage last week. With this mess out side....The 60 stayed in the garage!

Next on the list is the locker, followed by trans and t-case fluid change, and will clean up the engine. That'll be next weekend though, gonna go hit some trails in the 60 this weekend!

Been a busy month! But I'd did find time to change my air filter, my trans and t-case fluid, fix an exhaust leak, and instal the Aussie. Less than two weeks out from Mardi Krawl so I will repaint the skid plate and then pause here a minute until that event is over.

I did find out that the seal between the tranny and t-case is allowing fluid to pass back into the tranny. Got 5qts out of the trans and only one out of the t-case. I see there is a bypass hose temporary fix but I think I'll just keep a close eye on it and pull it out and fix it this fall. I also have a slow leak at the rear main seal so will fix both while I'm at it......always something else to do:bang:

Hey Chris...here's a few pics from last weekend:

Your truck did awesome out there, I was really impressed with what it went up / over / & through all weekend...!!!

Awesome truck! lived in Athens, Brownsboro, and Attalla among other places down there, it's such a cool area...Wish I could have seen your 60. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! And I Couldn't agree more about this being a cool area. I'm not a native, but I have no plans to leave anytime soon.

This was at Hawk Pride Mtn Off-road during the Mardi Krawl event put on by the Louisiana Land Krewsers.

Update on the rig. In the minus column, I broke the drivers side motor mount on day one of Mardi Krawl. With a little help I was able to get a ratchet strap on it to hold it down for the rest of the weekend. I'm sure this has been documented here before but here's a pic or two of how we did it. We tried it a couple different ways and this worked best for me.

Non ratcheting end in the frame in front of the steering box, then over the frame above and behind the box.

Then over the motor mount but under the smog pump. Next go back under the motor mount and then up over and around it again toward the front bumper.

Last attach the ratchet end to the front cross member, tighten down, and make absolutely sure what you rigged up doesn't get tangled up in the steering components or rotating parts/belt on the engine.

Not something you want to run around on for long, but it got me home. This will be at the top of my repair list!

One more in the minus column. Before I knew the motor was moving, b/c of the broken mount, my power steering pulley was cutting into my upper radiator hose. It didn't cut all they way through, but it made me nervous so we wrapped a piece of a plastic bottle around the hose with some duct tape to reinforce thing. Also not a long term solution, but it got me home. now I need to clean like crazy and start fixing things. But on the plus side I won the drivers drawing and got a free smittybilt 9,500 lb winch! So all in all I think I came out ahead.

Finally got around to fixing the motor mounts, went ahead and replaced both sides. Also fixed that cut hose. Had plenty of help from the the guys in our TLCA chapter too....always appreciate a hand with this stuff!

The old one on the drivers side was long gone.

New ones from Toyota....and I now have the left as a trail spare.

It's been awhile since I've updated this! Not a lot of work done on the rig the last couple of months because I've mostly been using it. I did get my ham radio license and bought a cheapo baofeng uvr-5 hand held and a cb. Will install those soon. Also will replace steering components soon (tie rod/drag link ends etc.). Need to get it ready for fall wheeling!

Anybody else who got one of these baofengs surprised at how small the uv-5r transceiver is? It looks like a toy! With the upgraded Nagoya antenna I put on it hopefully it will do the trick for the areas where we ride.

And a few shots from one of the summer rides (why not?)

Cb head unit is in, just waiting on the antenna to get here so I can finish the job. Took longer to instal than I had hoped. Had to move a buch of wires from the previous owners DVD player install. I decided to put it where the radio goes because I don't plan on running one any more. Had to spend some time making a face plate to go around it since the unidentifiable Uniden (doh! spell checker) is smaller than the radio was. Used an old license place to make it, not too bad in the end.

Made a little more progress. Finished with the CB (still waiting for the fcc to provide my call sign for the baofeng....government=inefficient). Also replaced my tie rod, tre, and drag link ends. Adjusted the steering gear box. Really happy with the results. Was getting some popping noises from the steering and a lot of slop in the steering, it's all gone now.

Old stuff...tie rod was just a little bent. I'm holding one end flat on the ground and the other end is about 3" out of whack

Ahhh...much better.

Drove the 60 to Hot Springs, AR and back for Southern Cruiser Crawl this weekend. Ended up putting about 800 miles on it since Thursday. Did great both wheeling and driving and it was a fun event. Definitely worth trying if you haven't been yet.

Only problem I had out there happened on the trail. The TC somehow got out of 4 low and I didn't realize it. The 4x4 light was still on, and I didn't notice the change in gearing between 4 high and 4 low. But it turns out that it was not in 4wd at all.

I discovered I was in 2wd after struggling to get up what should have been an easy climb. Being in 2wd I had to goose it to get up the hill.....there was lots of wheel spin and by the time I got to the top my rear tires were trashed (the rocks at Superlift ORV are sharp!).

Can y'all think of any way the the TC could slip from 4wd to 2wd while the light is still on and the lever is still pulled back to the 4wd position?

After this one thing I put it back in 4 low and had no further problems, but I did have to buy a new set of tires before I could make the drive home...

The aftermath:

So I searched a little, seems like the 4wd to 2wd problem is not totally uncommon. I've got a few things I can check, detent springs, trans mount etc.

Since getting back from Southern Cruiser Crawl I've got a laundry list of stuff to do that will have the 60 in the garage for awhile. Today I spent some time addressing my front bumper and winch. I started out with a harbor freight winch plate and cut it up a bit to suit my needs. I drilled a few holes in the plate, frame, and front bumper to get started.

I'll need some braces between the plate and bumper, but I've at least started. Hope to get things welded, cleaned up, painted, bolted down, and wired up before too long.

Here are some in progress pics.

Yeah! I guess to weren't in tears to swap out the tires, they're harsh on the road.

It's Lookin good, always fun to mount up a winch, especially a freebie! Nice rig, keep it up!

Thanks! It's been fun so far. Those Baja Claws are definitely harsh on the road but to me it was worth the trade off for the grip off road. They are great for the terrain we have around here. I would have bought another set of the same had I not had a brand new Cooper STT for a spare. Only had to buy three that way!
