So I have been pondering taking off my roof. Havn't found anything to use as a soft top. am I looking in the wrong place? has anyone had anything made that will keep the elements out? Factory source? any help, good help. thanks J

WOW 2K seriously. I thought it might be a little cheeper, oh well does it work good? Keep all the rain and mud out? How long have you had it? UV damage, or fading? Easy to install? sorry for all the questions but it is alot of $ that could be spent on other parts of the truck. thanks.

Also I was looking on the web site and they say it is for LJ/KJ 73 Almost positive that they are the same as my BJ74 but could anyone confirm this top would fit? Thanks

You could probably have a nice one custom made for you.
Try going to a auto/marine upholstry place.

They you can get exactly what you want.
So it could be a bikini top, and full soft top. or a fastback, or it could roll up, or come off etc.... Probably $500-$1000, depending on what you want, and where you go.

I looked at having one made for my Suzuki LJ.
It was smaller, but it was only going to be $400 for a fastback top, with rear windo zippers.

Cheers,
Nick

Agreed, the custom job might be less expensive, i got lucky the previous owner had all the bars and top (brand new) stored away. As far as i can remember MOT here on Mud was able to get the stuff directly from japan... good luck with it!

Thanks I might need a little luck. I have a great upholstery place close b that is more than willing to make what I need. Where to get a pattern and the hardware is the only thing stoping me from going ahead. Places to start? Good call removing the carpet was thinking of that eventually anyways. Thought of cleaning up and repairing the metal anywhere it needs and spraying it with armorthane or something simmilar. Any thoughts? thanks

I got this from MOT... show's you whats needed and sorta gives you an idea of the original setup. Hope it helps.

I have the soft top kit and it fits all 73 and 74 models. Yeah it is expensive but is it not a landcruiser? You do get all the folding metal hardware as well and it is very good quality. This ain't no cheap YJ top. The factory top does not even fold away, it just rolls up. Even if you get an upholstery shop to get it done where are you going to get the hardware. It will look kind of shabby. You have to check out the website "cabrio de" before you look any further other wise just get a bikini top or a samurai.

WOW that sure looks sweet. Thanks for all the imput guys. Looks like I should just save the money and buy the kickaz one. Rikard whats the wheelin like in Nroway? My family is origonally from there and I would love to go see it some day. Thanks again. J

You are welcome to Norway anytime!
Its a lot of nice places go off road, but the laws are wery conservative about driving in the woods and on snow. There are few regulated areas left for that kind of fun but we still have some. I live on a farm and have some places to go around here. We have a LC club where we try to arrange some tours in different enviroments. Its fun to drive in 3 ft of deep snow....

The Cabrio works fine in all weather but I use my FRP in the winter. You can roll up the sides, the back and only the "front roof".

Here is a model of the frame work of the soft top:

do you have a pic of it up??
looks REAL nice...

well I have one the "cabrio de" soft top kits as I had mentioned and The guy in Norway has one. And the quality speaks for itself and it does reflect in the price. It is not jeep Yj and if you are out to save a few bucks then make your own bikini top or maybe just get one for a Yj. Check out their website just google it under cario de. Otherwise just spend your weekends pulling off the frp top.

well, the FRP is pretty quick and easy after the first time.
the factory soft top sucks when R&R it.
this top is looking better to me all the time...
