. I replace all the factory water pipe clips with screw type clamps. Found minor weeps on pipes to tubro and thermostat housing. Replaced leaking heater rad under dash too. The joys !!! Could you post pics of air bag suspension. Thanks.

1 snap of front and 1 of the rear, they are down majority of time, as car does more sitting around, as not my daily drive, Generally pump up a fraction before taking out, to adjust the ride, or if towing, Cheers

Research & develop trip

It's been a while since posting, the Oldtoy had ventured down south to high country (Victoria) towing camper trailer, clocked up 3500klms on journey, with wifey & daughter. (R&D trip)
She purred all the way, there was 37' degree outside temp at times on Hwy through N.S.W which saw the temp gauge move a little higher than I had seen before, but not outside of range, and with a little correction to driving behaviour that was manageable, although I have identified a seep leak from water pump gasket while donk is cold, but I had previously thought there was a minor leak somewhere, it's just confirmed where now!!
Just wanted to get the thoughts on other punters experience on water pump gaskets! As I have just purchased a OEM 13bt manual, and intend to operate $ replace gasket, is there any particulars/ specifics I should keep an eye out while replacing??

If doing the gasket may as well just put on a whole new pump. Not a terribly hard job, just fiddly as you need to remove a heap of stuff to get the pump out.
Thanks Hulsty, it's Funny you say that, as some punters I spoke to have suggested the same, Why stop at gasket, may as we'll replace the lot while your there!!
I'm no mechanic by any means, but this is why I enjoy the Oldtoy, learn, apply and appreciate, and no one to blame, Cheers

I can highly recommend upgrading the dome light with a drop-in '5050' LED panel to replace the stock bulb. I think mine was a 20 SMD unit, I prefer the warm white over the bluer hue of the daylight/cool white, but whatever floats your boat.

We should catch up and go 4wding some time, I'm looking at heading back to sundown national park over the queen's birthday weekend if you're interested?

Oldtoy is having some surgery, the fun task of removing water pump and replacing with new :wrench:
Took longer than anticipated to remove the water pump, although got there in the end, there was some piss farting around with fan shroud, etc.
As I'm half way through the job, I need some guidance from those who have done this before regarding the gasket, as you can see in photo, the gasket has a rib around each opening, and the gasket is made of some thin metal, & not what I was expecting.
Question to those who know, should I be smearing some gasket goo on both sides of this gasket just to make sure ?? Just around ribs , beside them ?? Or not??

Cheers

[/ATTACH]Just a snap of the donk without water pump, you'll notice a lot of grit and dirt below where pump was indicating this has been leaking for while, hopefully this should sort it out

The factory steel shim gaskets are coated and are put on dry in original installations. I have used a thin smear of FIPG when I install them.

image.webp image.webp Its been a while since sharing some activities, although I have been plugging away on the Oldtoy, and also keeping up to date with the other bj projects on mud.
Here is some of things I have been tinkering on.
Slowly picked 2nd hand OEM snorkel, snorkel airbox, & fittings, the airbox was a tad rusty and in poor condition, so I got that sandblasted, and coated matt black, ........the idea of cutting hole in my cruiser was daunting considering I had no template to work with and the hole needed to be a rectangle, wasn't keen on grinder, so I used a nibbler it worked great.
Other task was to get oil receiver working after replacing sender a while back, got that sorted through auto instrument shop, as amayama indicated it was no longer available, which I find hard to believe, all working now very happy, ol mate told me that when senders pop it surges the receiver and burns them out, which was evident when I pulled out cluster and had closer look, you can also see in pic the cluster glass has battle scars when receiver burnt out, near 32v .
I also found some plastic trim that fits over the roll bar as my roll bar was added later in Oz by p/o although no trim was fitted, on as you know they don't come factory with JDM stock.
Put on an OEM bonnet protector, toyota decal not landcruiser, I believe the landcruiser ones are for the later models, I could be wrong, ??
For something to do I came across an inspection lamp that came with 40's I believe , I fitted that within engine bay, just a 2 pin plug in, very handy as it is small and can get into tight spots, took old bulb out and put in LED just for brightness.
I have just provided hj75 black grill to electroplater to chrome up, as I'm having no luck finding original, other than japan, after that who knows.
Oh yeah got that water pump in and flushed and fitted, no drama there other than that flamin fan shroud, a lot easier to get in than out but I learn as I go, all good.
Cheers keep you postedimage.webpimage.webp

May I request to see if others can check their 13bt's to see if there is a spring between the intake butterfly housing( I doubt its called that) and lever to actuator, I have plenty of oil mist exiting from this area, and from previous readings there looks like there should be a spring closing this leak, as there is some play ( back and forth ) and thinking a pressure spring would close the leak/gap within the butterfly axle/ lever and reduce mist and increase air pressure flow,
image.webp Not sure if a spring should be there or not, if someone can check much appreciated! and also comment on the amount mist is exiting there, cheers guys
