I was going to let this project die out but it was decided that a small run of these will be made after I talked to the guy for a bit.

They are intended to just be like originals with some variations in materials and functionality. The knob itself will be solid steel, not injection molded plastic like the original. The bolt itself can be removed in the event it needs the threads get stripped, rusted, etc. The original knob from Toyota is not serviceable in this manner. Hex head will be 20 or 21mm like the original.

There will only be five sets available (two knobs per set) and only one run ever. That is all the detail I have right now. I will start a new thread about them either in 70 series section or in classifieds section when progress is made. Just an opportunity to get an obsolete part for your 70 series with a fold down windshield, especially those with soft tops.

I'm interested!

I'd prefer those to the originals to be honest!

Please PM price and when it would be available.

I'm assuming it will be black?

I forgot about this project. I reached out to the guy after seeing this thread get bumped up. He provided a photo of the rough milling process. What you see are shavings, water?, and such. He is pretty slow as he is more focused on high dollar government jobs.

Anyways, the idea is to make them black when finished. I am not sure when the ETA will be and I don't want to say. I will PM you once I know more.

@FJ73Texas I’m waited for 2 pairs 😍

I got another update on this knob project. He said he was still milling the metal knobs and working on the center portion for the threaded custom bolt.

Sorry it is taking so long to complete for those that want a set. Going through this whole process as helped me have a better understanding of the frustration others have in regards to having someone make custom parts. This will be the first and last time I do this too.

@FJ73Texas

Still patient , really appreciate how hard you try to make the repro @FJ73Texas !

Thank you for the understanding. I knew it would have been too much of a risk to take down deposits or reservations with this guy making them on the side for me.

Good work but unpredictable timeline.
