Birfield axle on 77 FJ40, can/should I fill the ball joint with grease?

77 FJ40 with stock front axle. I've got a pretty aggresive oil drip from the area around the ball joint on the axle. I'm not sure if that ball area is linked to the differential area? Or is one independent from the other with oil. I'm assuming they are since that birfield area has a seperate fill plug?

Just wondering if anyone has done a quick fix by pumping it full of synthentic grease?

pumping full of grease only adds to the thickness of the soup...your inner axle seal is trashed and until you replace that, you'll have a continuing mess...

pump it full, and it will push into the housing past the inner seal...and what should have been 1 hour per side to replace an inner seal will turn into a few hours of cleaning out the housing itself...

The quick fix would be to pull the whole wheel/birf assembly (without dis-assembly) and replace the inner seal.

The not-so-quick-do-it-right-the first-time-fix would be to dis-assemble the hub, wheel, birf re-grease, replace all the soft parts including the inner-seal.

Specifically, you need this for a quick-fix, and you prolly don't need to get it from $OR, NAPA has them.

Would part # 080-40B On that same page do it? That set is only $36.99. Now I guess the question is: Is this the gasket set I need to fix this problem? And will this solve the problem?
