Not once did I say my way was the only way... and I'm making a big deal out of it because you said Vaseline has the risk of causing early deterioration, for some o rings it definitely would deteriorate them but not o-rings designed for peterolium products. You mentioned how the o-ring lube was expensive so i stated how Vaseline is cheaper and easily available, so calm down I'm simply showing there are multiple ways to do the task. I'd have to also say that Vaseline is safe to use on basically all o-rings on our vehicles since most all are rated for oil. Only place I would use a synthetic lubricant is in the water system.

You might want to rethink your "Vaseline is basically safe" to use on all the O rings on these trucks. I would not recommend using it on any of the O rings used on, or inside the brake system. The O rings used in the brake system are made out of Ethylene Propylene, that material is NOT compatible with petroleum jelly.

Any use for the regular "O-lube" on our rigs? Or will the "Super O-Lube" take care of the most common seals/o-rings?
Since the Super O ring lube covers more different types of O rings, and It'll work with wide variety of fluids, that's the one i always used in my shop on customers cars. Plus at 13 bucks a tube, only being used in your home shop you'll have a life time supply, so you just can't go wrong.

So just spit then?

So just spit then?

Or K-Y.

Or K-Y Yours and Mine......

Or for the extreme ones: K-Y Intense......

Cripes, people, just buy the damn screws at the dealership or the dealership online, and hold the O-ring in on the OIL PUMP COVER (since that's what this thread's about........) with wheel bearing grease or Vaseline since ALL are petroleum and Lithium based lubricants.....

(Except the K-Y, butt that's for somethin' else........0

Or stainless ones at the hardward store for $.59 each.

Well i guess you could spit on them if you like, or you could us a lube that's compatibly with Ethylene Propylene also known as EPDM and brake fluid. Look I'm not saying you can't use spit, KY, or Vaseline if you like, it's your truck, your choice. All I was trying to do, was point out the correct lube to use on brake O rings, and since so many members here like to make it a point to use the correct parts, fluids, oil and materials to do a job, i thought this info would be helpful to them. YMMV

Your post was very helpful. I am just a little tipsy and lipping off. I agree with your assessments when it comes to lubes and I am planning this project for my own truck. I finally got the big boy torque wrench to do the crank shaft seal and I am going t tackle this job at the same time.

I was more giving you a hard time because in the post I responded to, you told us what wouldn't work, but you kept what would from us. It was meant to be just a small joke. Your advice is sound over all :)

Both the DOW CORNING MOLYKOTE 55 that Gummycarbs, and Stevezero recommended. Along with the Parker Super O Ring Lube i spoke of will work for all O rings on our trucks. One tube of this stuff should be a life time supply for most members.

Please explain how the brake fluid and those O-rings apply in this thread.

Idk our brake systems had o-rings. I guess in the masterbater there are o-rings...
What do you think keeps brake fluid from coming out pass the brake caliper bore and the caliper pistons, square O rings. Also the calipers used on the front of our trucks, use an O ring to seal the fluid passage between the inboard, and outboard halfs of the caliper, since the two halfs are machined and bolted together.

Please explain how the brake fluid and those O-rings apply in this thread.
Warpig made a blanket statement in an earlier part of this thread that "Vaseline is safe to use on basically ALL o-rings on our vehicles since most all are rated for oil" I was just pointing out that there are O rings used on these trucks, that the use of Vaseline would be the incorrect choice. Thats because Vaseline is imcompatible with, and can deteriate EPDM, thats the material that brake O rings are made out of. My understanding is, most members want IHATEMUD to be a source of true, actuate, and safe information for making repairs on their trucks. Thats why i think this info applys to this thread. YMMV

I also mentioned not to use Vaseline in the water system for lube... But I guess I forgot to mention the brake system thanks for calling me out on being wrong even though I said "basically most all". Which doesn't mean all o-rings.

Warpig, I think this horse has been beat enough, we'll just have to agree, to disagree on "basically most all" have a nice weekend!
