Searching on my phone is a little frustrating, so if there's a resourceful thread out there already link me and I'll be on my way. :bang:

Looking to pick up a scan tool, is there one more valuable/accurate than the rest or are they all pretty similar? Leaning towards the ScanGaugeII at the moment, but open to other options. Not opposed to a Bluetooth set up, but would rather just have something that's installed and on at all times. Main concerns are water temp, fuel, speed and what not. Appreciate the help.

I run a ScanGauge II in mine....just to monitor things and to be able to check basic functions and codes. It's something that is 'on-board' all the time.

But I use a more inclusive scanner for diagnostics if there is any real trouble and I am back at my shop.

ScanGaugeII mounts nicely underneath a single DIN radio.

Which version of the ultragauge is it?

Wired is what I'm thinking, does everyone run the EM Plus or the MX 1.3?

This works with iOS via any number of apps. I'm using Dash Commander.

Only complaints, which are biggies. It drains the iphone PDQ when its on, so extended use is an issue. And, it is a vampire power sucker. Meaning, with the rig off and sitting in my driveway, I still can connect to it's wifi signal.

Pros: its cheap and does the the job when you need it too. Loaned it to a friend last weekend that pulled a code from a Toureg, also worked fine on my wife's 2015 Ford Transit Connect.

That's pretty much what I'm after, anything more and I'll take it elsewhere for further diagnostics. I'm 99% set on the ScanGuage II, but always trust those here that know more than I do.

I run scan gauge II to monitor temps ave mph, battery life etc. it's a good tool. Just noticed increase in temps so am going thru cooling system to replace things. Also can scan codes and clear codes. Bought mine used off eBay to save money
