do a swap once. I never got better than 11mpg out of ANY of my old V8s...cali motor swap= same size or larger; same year or newer; unmodified from factory; all applicable emissions equipment intact and functioning. for that amount of cost and effort, just resmog and drive it till you can do the diesel.
