I know, I should probably do a search, but how about an updated answer to what are the best brake pads for the money that are out there for my recently acquired 80? I'm still learning, but any help would be appreciated!

from my experience the best has been EBC green stuff pads. I have done the 100 series pads some say are an upgrade but I don't get it. Their bite was not good and I noticed a much better response when I moved to the EBC pads.

The whole deal with 100 series pads is the larger surface area. It's just a bigger pad.

The bite would depend on the compound, wouldn't it? I mean, you could have bought EBC Green Stuff for 100 series.

fwiw i am using 100-series PowerStop Evolution Ceramic. They have to be bedded in with a series of hard stops to heat the pad up (typical for ceramics) but i have no complaints at all, other than the fact that the shims are glued on, making fitment problematic if you are doing new rotors at the same time.

you are correct and I agree.

On the front. And if you are putting on new rotors you will have to leave out the anti-chatter shims until they are a bit worn

I used powerstop evolution and have no complaints. I replaced all 4 at once and my old brakes were completely shot, so probably not a fair comparison.

Apples to oranges maybe, but my experience with EBC pads has been absolutely horrifying. Mild track day in my buddy's saab with EBC yellowstuff left us with pretty much no brakes at all. Pad surface glazed after 3 laps and we barely made it home that day. Pads were brand new bedded in earlier that week.

I don't have experience with any other brands. I currently have the 100 pads on and didn't notice any major difference. I'll go back to OEM 80 pads. I drive slow, leave good distance in front of me, and I'm able to stop. OEM seem to work :meh:. @98 SNAKE EATER has changed his pads 1000 times. I believe he uses OEM only. I don't think there is a best, all mentioned will get the job done.

Anyone else notice the 100 series pads warping the rotors? I never had a problem with warped rotors when I used the 80 pads, but I have now warped my third set of OEM rotors with the 100 series pads. I hated the 12k-15k lifespan of the 80 pads, but since it isn't my DD and changing rotors is much more of a PIA, I am thinking about going back to 80 pads. It has been so long that I can remember if I actually stopped that much better with the 100 pads over the 80 pads.

Always debate about pads .. and seems to be at the end Toyota pads are the most secure option ..

Probably not "the best" but I just put Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors and pads all around and YIKES what grab they have. Yes the previous (stock) brakes were worn out, but they weren't four years ago when I got the truck and these brakes stop better.

yes, did it on mine too, I am not a fan of the 100 series pads on the 80's, I know lots of guys do it but if it is just for longevity purposes I don't see the upgrade? from my experience you are better off buying a decent set of rotors and upgraded pads.

I specified pads for a 1998 Land Cruiser to get my 100 series Power Stop Evolution Pads from Summit Racing. I also did the drilled and slotted rotors. Front and rear.

To keep with a different answer from each response, I use Akebono Proact pads with Toyota rotors. (100 series pads up front)

First get a 4 runner master cylinder and change your pads to ebcs! Huge difference in stopping power.
