Best brake pads?

I did it and the stopping power is much better. I needed to do a master, but did not need the abs, as I have disconnected 20 years ago with 37 and then 38s. The 4runner master has just a little more diameter and was cheaper than a new 80 abs master. This might only work for my setup given the lift and size tires.

Probably not "the best" but I just put Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors and pads all around and YIKES what grab they have. Yes the previous (stock) brakes were worn out, but they weren't four years ago when I got the truck and these brakes stop better.
I second this, I've had zero issues w/the powerstop drilled /slotted rotors &.z16 pads. Stopping performance is very good.

Brembo 100 pads in mine, it was a DD at the time and the 80 pads were just eaten away. The pedal pressure is obviously higher to get the same amount of performance as the surface area is greater. To understand this put a large nail between the palms of your hand and push together....no not that hard silly!!

Seriously you now get it, less surface area for a given pressure results in better 'bite', I still like the odd traffic light grand prix and it is good to know your anchors are good, and towards the end of this year I will be doing an overhaul of the brakes, unsure how far in but definitely new callipers and flexible pipes.

Unsure of the advantage of slotted/drilled discs (rotors) on an 80, my experience with these (Land Rover in Avatar) is the drilled holes get filled with mud, there was also an issue with the slots which I cannot recall? Mine spends a lot of time in dry and arid conditions so dusty and small stones/gravel, perhaps it was getting in the slots and grinding at the pads?

I hear the arguments about gases escaping the slots and so on but unless you have some serious performance mods I cannot see any advantage, well except from the pub talk point of view and if I have to be honest...they look good as well!

Dave

Also look into Hawk's LTS pads, major improvement over OE.
Love Jawk’s LTS pads. The rear has been discontinued and only a few fronts still out there. Just ordered 2 sets of fronts - any suggestions for rear pads. I was chewing through OEMs every 4 months before I upgraded to slotted rotors and hawk pads. Need a solid recommendation that works as well as the hawk lts.
