TO ALL- I took the leap and picked up an early H55 5 speed split case transmission to mate up to my CSB motor. I purchased a bell housing from Advance Adapters. Two issues.
1: I was not impressed with the casting. I hope it’s a fluke and will be returning it.
2: The access hole for the clutch fork is on the passenger side, not the driver’s side.
Anyone aware of any options?
Thanks

Toyota had the clutch are on the left on the early FJ40 imported to the US because the right rear motor mount was used as a pivot point for the dash mounted high low shifter. Shortly after the dash mounted moved to the transmission hump clutch arm mounted to the right side. The brake lines were always on the right side. Reason is to keep the hydraulic fluid away from the exhaust. The B engine exhaust to the right and hydraulic fluids were on the left. Once the the crossmember under the transmission started the bellhousing changed and small adapter to mount the clutch slave cylinder was used that only fit the on the right side.

Always surprised at the wealth of knowledge that exists in your posts. Amazing.

I’ve never been Impressed with the AA bellhousing. The Downey one was way nicer and they had two holes on the bellhousing to accommodate the clutch fork setup on either side depending which side you needed it on. I have had to deal with swapping the slave from left to right on the AA bellhousing myself a couple of times.
