So my son wants a 86 4runner 4cyl manual and before I go look at at it I was wondering how available are common parts that need replacing. Things like clutch stuff, alternators, water pumps. Is it still in most parts stores or dealers ?. Whats not redily available if it gets broken.

From what he says its rust free and 100K on the clock.

Thanks for your time.

Engine parts are no problem. These engines were used up till 1995, so there's still lots of them on the road. Lots of aftermarket support for suspension, trans, axles, etc.

But, no interior parts left (unless you go junkyard or eBay). No OEM body parts available.

Ya, drivetrain parts are not a problem. Cosmetic stuff can be, but the dealer surprises me on occasion. Parts are still available at the dealer. But even the common stuff might be special order because the parts department doesn't move very many. They don't stock what they don't sell. I recently had to special order a thermostat, and distributor cap.

If you have any questions we have a fabulous knowledge base here at MUD and we can usually tell you what's up.

The nice thing, is if he completely destroys the body panels you can make him buy fiberglass replacement panels here.

I have been talking myself into buying a new tailgate skin for mine for years.
