Well I was very disappointed when I went to the Kroger by the reservoir and the beer selection was unchanged. Luckily I ran into the chain sales manger for Capital City Beverage. We talked for about 10 min about beer and what they are going to carry. He said Kroger is well behind McDades and will get their shipment in on Friday or Saturday. The problem is Rankin Co won't let you sell singles so we won't get much of the stuff that will be shipped early in the big single bottles.

We were discussing what brews they were going to pick up and I suggested looking at Great Divide and Dog Fish Head. He gave me his card to email him some suggestions. If you can think of some breweries or beers you want them to pick up post it here or PM me. He said they are currently fighting with the Bud distributer to pick up Chimay. Hopefully if we give him some high selling suggestions he could be a resource for getting our special orders or at least giving us a heads up when and where new brews hit.

That all sounds good except for Jockamo. Maybe it's better at the source, but I thought it was lame, a "C" IPA at best.

Question. With the new beer law in effect, will Magnolia step up the potency of their brews?

Lazy Magnolia just released Timber Beast IPA on the 1st. It is 9% ABV. I just picked some up and will let you know how it is.

Timber Beast sounds like a winner. That must be a double IPA. I'm eager to hear your review.

Tell your beer contact to add craft beers from Avery and Left Hand (both Colorado breweries), Saint Arnold's (Houston), and Bear Republic (CA) to his list. Real Ale Brewing, also in Texas, puts out some fine beers as well.

Lazy Magnolia Timber Beast Imperial Rye Pale Ale

I typically don't drink really hoppy beers, but I wanted to see if Lazy Mag could step up to a good high gravity beer. I was afraid it was going to be one of those obnoxious brews where they just pour in the hops to make a point, but I was pleasantly surprised.

It didn't have much of a head, but had a good floral aroma. To me, it was the right amount of bite from the hops to add a good flavor while still having a smooth finish. It is much much better than their Reb Ale. I would definitely buy it again, even at $10 a 4 pack. If you want to try it, buy it quick as I hear rumors they have released their current supply and won't ship again for 3 weeks.

You have to ask? I'd think the answer would be obvious. Spivey and I would place these brews at the top of our lists...

Icehouse Edge
Olde English 800 Malt Liquor
Colt 45 High Gravity Lager
Schlitz High Gravity Lager

Spaten Optimator is pretty good too, for a session beer. ;)

Lee we already carry those fine fermentations!

I bought my Top of the Hops tickets today at Hops and Habanas. Ive heard they are the only ones with VIP tickets still available. I got regular tickets because the wife wanted to go and I didn't want to spend the extra $80. Who is going this year? It is July 28 4-8 pm.
