Ive always loved the 80 series LCs. Finally saw one on FleaBay I couldnt pass up.
Scored a 96' with 200k for ~6k. No lockers, Probably do ARBs and make this the expedition rig Ive always wanted.

Its still on the transport from San Fran to ABQ.

My last two projects really tapped me for cash and taught me some hard lessons about extreme modding.

My 2005 Subaru STi. 513WHP
Building a 2005 4cyl to run 10 seconds and be driven on the streets everyday ugh. Never again. 21k miles so far (nothing broke, though)

1987 Wagoneer XJ. Chevy V8, Coilovers, ARBs, 37s, Atlas II, hydro assist, tri 4link rear, roll cage, D44s, way too much

Ive learned my lesson about modding too much on vehicles. I havent been able to drive the XJ in two years :(. Now I really want a capable off roader that I can beat on, drive to work everyday and slap some bolt-ons to.
Ill follow the advice on here and do the J/L springs and shocks, ARBs (maybe), snorkel, 31", rack, and a real bumper with a winch. Other than that, Its gonna be a parking lot cruiser with dings!!!. Thats OK with me.

considering stock tires are 32.....

sharp rig tho...80 is similar to mine, 'cept I've got lockers :D

JB radius arms on a hi-pinion D44...37" tires on 17" Allieds...awful lotta AN fittings under the hood ;)

Damn nice rigs and STi. The sti looks weird without it's humongus spoiler on the back.

:D
Im not into the ricer wing either. With the bike rack and no scoop or wing in back, its a real sleeper.
I didnt realize the stockers were the equivalent of a 32". I guess 33x12.50 are the way to go.

Dude Nice set up on the Sub'eeee. Welcome to the board. Were do you get the money for all the toys?? My girl would kill me if I start to drop big bills on my LX450!

welcome aboard :flipoff2:

I'd suggest the 33s for your new expedition rig. Anything smaller will get you hung up on annoyingly small rocks, IMHO.

Thats a good question. My accountant wants to know the same thing :D
The LC was a scrape with savings and credit cards.
The XJ is an on going project with small amounts spent over the last 4 yrs.
The Subie was 100% credit card. ouch!

wow good luck my friend! I started to head down that same road with my 02 supercharged TRD taco. Again the women put me back on track. I'm glade too, or else i would never of bought my 97 Lx450. Man i love the lx450, blows the taco out of the water when off-roading. Yes the taco was fast and did pretty well off-road, but it's no LC. So now I'm working 2 jobs and going to school to pay for my mod's on my LX450. Happy Wheeling!

the_owl,

Check out the local cruiser club if you're interested ( http://hdcruisers.org ) The next meeting is at my house on Saturday evening. Bring the family and the LX or the Subie but not that hideous j**p. (just kidding.... bring whatever you want.) :D

wow that sti is amazing  wish i had one of those along side my 80 but if you can only have one i got the right one

Looks like you live in ALBQ...I'll have to give you a hand with mods when I move there next year :D

BTW, it appears as though you live in an apt. How the heck did you do all that welding from the power in the garage?

Nice rigs.

Mm No Apt here. I live on a horse property across from El Pinto restaurant.
But the Jeep is at a friends house who builds 4 seater sand rails in the far NE heights.

Beowulf sounds good. Ill have the LC by then (hopefully). Thanks for the invite
I know Jeep and Toy guys rarely see eye to eye :D
Nice to know theres a local FJ group
:grinpimp:

El Pinto in Albq? I use to love that place when I traveled there for Business in the 90's

Welcome to Mud !

LC came in tonight. Marvelous truck! Ive never driven one before. Very commanding on the road.
Brakes are toast, seat switch is broke, windshield cracked. Other than that and a few scratches, its in great shape.
The temptation to keep the credit card in my wallet may be too much :D

Hold on to it, cuz once you take it out you are hooked. Let me tell you how this evolves like a festering sore taking control little by little. First you'll see someones thread about a new set of Mud Terrain Tires, or All Terrains "BAM!! $1000" next you'll see a thread about an OME suspension lift "BAM!!! $800" then you start getting into the good stuff this involves CDAN our resident parts guy "Bam!! $300 for birf job, next you'll have to get new pads, then new rotors, rebuild starter, tackle the PHH, belts, and all the other P.M. we love around here. Once you get the maintenance done you'll start drooling over an ARB bumper, a set of sliders, then a winch, then a rear bumper---- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it never ends :crybaby: :crybaby: . Needless to say my son will no longer be attending Harvard, due to the fact that his college money is now my Hanna Rear Bumper :D oh well at least there's a good community college down the road.

Welcome and good luck, hope you have better will power than me.
