I'm constantly fighting the urge to grab another 40 too mate. Heaps of really tidy utes over here I'd love to own. I'm just trying to keep my focus on the troopy until she's done. I've absolutely fallen for her and think she'll be a member of the family for a long time. The main reason my wife's stayed on board with the project so well is the promise of one well restored, clean, good looking tourer. Not 1 half done troopy and 3 more bombs in the shed. Haha. But maybe once troopys done I'll start collecting again.... I'll keep an eye out mate. But the 40-5 speeds are super rare over here as well. I count myself very lucky!

Got a old but clean ute (pickup here) already. A very clean 84 troopy from Australia got wrecked local to me. Picked up the running except the 2H. It even had a PTO winch. If I could have picked up the whole thing would have probably switched to diesel. Once the yard guys got their hands on it at the wreckers that make a mess of the wiring in short order. Plus diesel parts are hard to come by and a upgrade like your doing would probably have been in order.

I was surprised when you said you had a five speed from a petrol 40. Lately a guy in Australia posted he had a FJ40 with a stock five speed. Only one I remember reading about. 4x series five speeds seemed to be mated to a 3B. Most all F and H input shafts seem to come from 60/70 series. Very lucky indeed to have found one.

Looks like your doing a top notch job. Going to look like new and drive even better than new. I assume you will take it by the previous owner to show him you indeed followed thru and didn't buy it to grab some parts. I'm sure he wouldn't recognize it.

nice job, i'm going to be putting a 12h-t into my hj47 as well. interested to follow yours along as well. i have a question: what motor mounts did you use? i believe that the stock 2h ones are perfect. thanks

Thanks mate, she's not destined to be a show car. Just no rust and everything refreshed in her. I more want the upgraded, stronger drivetrain to make her a solid daily and family tourer. I ended up with a PTO as well. Thomas Winch though, not Toyota. Contemplating rebuilding depending on final bullbar choice and whether it will be compatible. Yeah, I scored the 5 speed from a bloke in Kalgoorlie that had it sitting in his shed destined for his project but had to get rid of it under instructions from the Minister of War and Finance. Very lucky.

I sure have stayed in contact with Marty (previous owner). He and his wife get an update from me with photos about once a month. They love being involved still and have invited me round for a beer when she's ready for her maiden voyage!

Yep. 2H ones are perfect mate and I'm sure you already know but make sure you use the 2H bell housing as well.

Hay mate hows it going any updates??
Harvested our last load today. Long harvest this season. So hopefully back into the Troopy in the next few weeks! Poor old girls barely been looked at for 5 months. Got a few bits of powder coating done here and there, hubs finished off and test fired the 12HT for the first time though! Pretty exciting milestone. Hopefully paint is happening towards the end of this month or early March.

The underside of the fenders has been done in a tinted stone guard for extra protection. The underside of the tub, the rear floor and front floor pans will also be done the same way. Stoked with the dash panel as well, done in two colours like factory and the pewter/silver was colour matched to an original toyota paint sample.
