IM IN!!!!:D:D:D:D
Love that run!
Itll be good to have you along again and see that 80 wheel!
Ive GOTTA get my PS front wheel balanced....
I think I lost a weight and it wobbles like a MO FO between 40-45!!!!
I just HOPE that IS infact the problem!

Soo, how does this stack up against a trail like Steam Shovel? That's my only frame of reference, that and Jumbo Grade.

Hey Keith,
Here is a link on the trail!
Its NOW rated at a level 6 of 10 (I think it was a 4 last year).
I did it stock with open diffs last year and it was TOUGH that way!
I want to say youd be fine, but some parts are pretty challenging...
This summer, when we went last time, we had a couple of 100 series rigs who did fine AAAAAND there were a SLEW of Hummers (around 20 or so) who were going through and many of which were BONE STOCK!
You have lockers right?
The one thing on your rig that concerns me is the HANGY DOWN, rock grabbing slider steps!
Those will be a ROCK MAGNET and get KILLED there DEFINATELY! If you want, you can come over to my place and we can zap em off and weld plates over the holes to bandaid the situation!
And (as all other trails around here) scratches should be expected!
Its an awesome trail and will be more challenging than anything else you have done thus far!
You might have to take a strap, but that's not a big deal!

Krokar, are we going to try to do this one? I think we can pull it off some how or another?

Yeah, I have the ATRAC and the rear locker on my rig. Found out the hard way Totally Off Road isn't open on weekends. Was looking to get straps and shackles on Saturday.

Another issue is I have a 100-page magazine that has to go to press on Nov. 5, which also coincides with my regular paper deadline. That really cuts into any time I'd have to take you up on the offer to cut off my rock catchers. They really do interfere with my clearance.

I'll have a better idea what time I'll have after this coming weekend.

If I can't make this run, can I get a rain check on slider fix?

Sure!
Howeve, you did mention that you were going to be getting NEW sliders, correct?
Im thinking that I can take some sch 40 pipe, cut it in half so there is a nice plate that fits the radius of the main slider to cover the holes!
Ill have to grind some of the PRETTY powder coating off, but we can shoot it with some paint afterwards.
Like I said...youll probably only want this as a bandaid!

Want to get new sliders, but the holiday season is dramatically interfering with my budget for trail armor. If I didn't like my family, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

The driver's side slider is still straight, but the passenger side is bent. No more clearance between it and the body. On the plus side, the steps are nearly parallel with the road. No worries about the powder coat though. I've been gradually scraping that off.

I'm a man down in my office, so realistically I'm going to have to pass on Deer Valley. Have to be here to meet these deadlines.

Maybe we can work something out after Nov. 5 …

Thanks again,

Keith

I've ordered my sliders, I just hope they get here before this weekend:o

There are a few spots that make me a little nervous.

I think Chicago will be along we can stack enough rocks to build a road for you, if your skeered.
:flipoff2:

Yeulp!!!
We can build a highway if ya want!
When I ran it stock, I never touched the rockers, but I did tag the PS rear tail light...
That seemed to kick off a trend on my rig!:crybaby:

I cant wait!

Looks like Jason (the other blue FJ from the Jumbo run) and I may be joining you guys.
Any advice for him? He's relatively inexperienced.

#1: Tell him to be easy on the skinny pedal...

AWESOME!!!
He'll be fine, but I agree with Espressodan...skinny pedal breaks stuff!
Actually, last time we went there were a couple of FJC going through!
The only issue I forsee is clearance...
However, everyone will be more than willing to stop and spot!
At least I will!

Its an awesome trail...challenging, beautiful and relatively short!

Cant wait to go!

Probably best to have that ATRAC engaged (in low range) on the rocks. It kicks in when needed. Not quite sure if it works in tandem with the rear locker. There's some chatter on the FJC forum about those working simultaneously after a certain build date. Also, if you're not on slippery terrain, or not really in need of that rear locker, disengage it. Steering gets much better.

Any time you're not sure about what line to take, stop. Scout it out, ask for help/tips. Everyone has been very helpful to me when I've needed coaching. Be clear on the hand signals being used. That's important. Spotter and driver need to be on the same page. Seems like common sense stuff, but ya don't want to learn this one the hard way.

There was a situation on that Oregon trip where a group of FJC owners tried to get me to be their trail leader. That led me to believe they had less experience than I had, which was two previous runs in Nevada, and a couple hours on those Oregon trails the day before. I recall claiming "Not it!"

Did end up leading a couple other FJC owners, however, my passenger wheels those trails a few times a year and we've been buds since college. Also wheeled with the other drivers the day before. Just came down to trusting that group vs. the other.

You got good people to wheel with here.
