Hello everybody my fj cruiser is going 10 mpg at 75 mph or 2500 rpm, it has a arb bull bar, ome 2.5' suspension and 285/75/R17 bfg mud terrains tires. I live in florida and I going to moab en 2 weeks I dont want to spend my all my money at the pump. What can I do?

I'm guessing you have a manual tranny? In my opinion it's a combo of the lift ,tires and front bumper. I think you have 2 options with this set up 1. check your tire pressure , find out what psi others are running that have this tire. I have the same size tire but there dick cepek fc-11's and i run them at 38 psi. 2. Hate to say it but slow down, lowering the rpm's is the only other thing that will help. My auto fj with 33x11.5 tires and a half inch spacer up front still gets about 21 miles to the gallon on the highway running the same speeds as you. I am curious if that will change when i put my lift on this winter.

What kind of driving do you do? I've got the OME suspension with the ARB bumber and stock tires with a MT. In town (not a lot of stop and go) I can do 70-75 and routinely get 18.5 mpg. I've found that going a little over 75 starts to take a pretty good hit though.

Some fj owners get a scan gauge installed in their rigs. It might help you moderate your fuel consumption on the road.

You might want to install a Cold Air Intake. Improves airflow into your engine making it work less.

Air up your tires to max psi recommended.

I know you are going to Moab and will probably be travelling heavy. Try and minimize the weight of your cargo as much as possible - that will be tough though.

Hope that helps

My driving is normal in town my fj is great in gas, it get bad on the interstate I also have a 100 series and it do some much better in gas, bud it dosent have any modifications I was wondering if I shoud breing my fj to the toyota shop for some impections in the feul system

I couldn't find your tire spec on BFG's website. Do you have Mud-Terrain T/A KM or KM2
Either way I couldn't find 285/75/17

Here is a link to their MTs:

Click on details of your tire and check out "sizes & specs"
your max load and psi is there.

Slow down - no other answer. At 72, I averaged 16.5 mph. I have the OME springs, 285s, 6-speed, roof rack with highlift, etc. I'll bet if you drop to 65 mph, you'll see 19 mph.

Before you buy something, e.g. scangauge, cold air intake, calculate the cost of the item and the expected improvment in MPG. For example: if you bought a TRD Cold Air Intake and you got 2 mpg more than stock (doubtful) say 14 to 16 mpg, at $3.00 per gallon, you'd have to drive 12,413 miles to pay for the $360.00 intake - to break even.

Love the cost benefit analysis ;)

I'm sorry my tires are 285/70/17 mud terrain bfg, great tires I'm very happy whit them

Check the specs on you tires from that site
If you are running 40 psi, you may want to increase a little and see if you get better mpg

no I never use the cruise control before, and that was my first trip on the truck traveling at 75 mph

I've heard cruise control isn't always the greatest thing to use for saving mpg, but might be the way to go on long distance flat terrain trips.

mph makes a big difference at a certain point, for my 80series if I went over 65mph, then mpg would start to suffer dramatically.

Also, have you calculated the bigger tire size into your mpg equation? Assuming they are larger than stock, you are actually going farther than the odometer is showing.

firetruck makes a good point at 75 mph with the larger tyre you are more than likely do more than 80mph.

10mpg is crazy low....I'm running 33x12.5, heavy bumper and roof rack and get 17-18 but I'm driving 'miss daisy". Easy on the acceleration and I never go over 72 on highway, any faster and it wants to downshift on overpasses.

OME 886 up front
OME 895 back aft
ARB bumper
Warn XD9000
285x70x17 Dick Cepek muds
Auto transmission
Factory roof rack with crap hanging off of it

Combined city/freeway MPG = 17 to 19 all the time.

I never drive over 65, I average 60 MPH on the freeway, 35 to 40 on city streets.
