... Ford has historically never done anything "risky" or "exciting". ....

I am sure you are strictly referring to the 4x4 market ;)

My next victim (hopefully)-- going to meet it Friday. :)

http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4723772368.html

It meets all of my 'somewhat picky' criteria: its not red, yellow, or tan- AND it has all four fender flares... Which is extremely hard to find, because everyone seems to think the fenders just have to be cut off to make these rigs cool

It's midnight blue!!! :bounce:

You should go buy that! It's very pretty.

Unfortunately for me, it's a matter of simple economics, when my cherokee was at its very best, I could probably have only sold it for 8,500-- and that would have had to be just the right buyer. I could probably part mine out for 3-4,000-- but it would take forever. So I can't spend more than about 4,000 to 4,500 on a new one or I'm throwing money away. Make sense in a crazy way? :) so much easier to sell a whole rig. If nothing else, I'll throw all these high dollar parts at a cheap, pre '97 rig and dump it.

What'd I miss?? What happened to your current Cherokee?

In case anyone was wondering, the strongest part of an ARB bumper are the bars- no question about it.

I feel my ARB has always been the crown jewel of my cherokee, sort of the keystone of the build. While falling sideways off of the fin I was on in Moab, that poor ARB took the brunt of the impact, and it was subsequently knocked into a trapazoid-ish shape, leaning a good two inches to the passenger side. Attempted to straighten it last night, first I found a good sized pine tree and strapped my winch to it, pulling directly sideways, and put a high lift jack between one of the center uprights and the tree. With huge amounts of force being applied, the center upright finally gave and bent... Bars still not moving. Then I put the bumper "wing" against the tree on the drivers side and tried to winch to another tree with a snatch block and back to a strap on the bar. Pulled until the winch almost stalled... Little more winch, and the bumper wing folded in :( I gave up and came home, decided to get serious. I wrapped the strap around the top of the bar, attatched a chain, tied it to the toyota, and took off backwards at full speed. The resulting jolt was impressive. Cherokee pulled over six feet, I think the Toyota's rear tires came off the ground... Bars didn't move. It took 10-12 running, slack chain starts to move those damn bars back into a somewhat centered position. Amazing. If the front frame end of the cherokee wasn't bent from the fall impact, it's for sure bent now. Lol. Wanted to fix the bumper on this rig and not the new one. It's pretty straight now :D still have to cut out the bashed in section of pipe and weld in a new one-- she'll look good as new.

Dang, that should be an ARB testimonial! Send them your story and maybe they will give you a discount coupon ;)

Well, it looks like I'm being put on orders for July 2015 to Ft Drum, NY. I'm not upset about going back to Drum, but I need to figure out my plan for the 80. NY just doesn't offer the opportunities for wheeling that CO does, and finding any info on trails is impossible.

I'd love to keep this rig, but if doesn't make sense to as a daily driver. I'll most likely keep it for a few more months, possibly as late as April/May to get another year at CruiseMoab. But unless I find some great wheeling Mecca in the Drum region, she'll be up for sale early next year. I'll be said to see it go, but it'd be a shame to let it sit and go unused.

On a side note, only 3 more weeks til I return to the Springs. I hate Ft Irwin.

:crybaby:

Sorry to hear you'll be leaving the area. We'll have to get some good wheelin' in before you leave. I doubt you'll have much issue selling the whale...fun rig.

Hopefully it goes to someone who wants to wheel with it. When I'm back in the area visiting, I'll just have to hop in with one of you guys! Wife's family is all in the springs area, so we will definitely be back!

Gotta find something else with wheels and an engine to occupy my time. Thinking auto x and some track days.
