hi all

first time post in this section.

here's some pics of an aussie 55 I,ve just imported into the uk. I don't think there is more than a handful of them here. i'm thinking of bobbing it -18'' out from just behind the wheel arch. has anyone done this or have any opinions? . I seem to remember a post relating to bobbing a pig recently but cannot now find it. btw it's a 79 with a manual rear window.

Wow, clean looking Pig!

I'm cutting the **** out of mine (https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pig-preservation-society/513793-nurture-my-pig-5.html), but only because there was sooooo much rust.

Instead of cutting up that clean specimen, I propose a trade! ;)

Here's a pic I found online a while back of a bobbed 55.

just had a look at your thread-looking good

mine may not be quite as rusty as yours but not too far behind. it has had some paint at some point and there are plenty of rot under it and a big hole in the door. it looks good in the pictures I posted but i'll post some more soon and you'll see it's pretty bad.

I love that picture of the bobbed one- gunna defo go for that look -like the colours too.

also I live in a town and losing 18'' off the back is gunna make it a lot easier to get around and better departure offroad.

plan so far I think....

get it road legal

fix the rot

bob it

33's

buckets

tidy inside

mid mount winch to serve front and rear ibex style.

open to any suggestions-i'll get some better pics soon

I don't think a little bit out of piggies butt is gunna hurt him. especially if I use the excess pork to graft in bits to the cancerous areas particulary on the rear door. methink the bit that comes out is gunna fit there real nice.

more of a transplant than a chop.

yeah I like that name for my pig.........herein known as PORK CHOP!

So does that swing the knight's approval??

our pigs all object to you saying they have big butts....************

Hmmmmm..... 12 *'s..... what could that spell???
:)

Dang. Not sure how you share it so you get a little image of the video showing up in the screen?

Please don't tell me you watched that whole video.

OK, Thread Hijack over!

I'd put some new steel in if I were you, or you could be doing it again down the road.

I'll never understand why Toyota built these things like tanks, then used sub-par sheet metal.

hi all

gunna bring this thread up to speed in a week or so as some progress has been made on this piggy.

for now though, I,ve been chasing a poor running issue for a while on it and it finally looks as though I have found it . (hgf between 5 and 6).

can anyone tell me why the old , and my new , head gasket blocks off those two tear shaped coolant ports on the manifold side of the block deck??.

does an oem one block these off - does it matter? thanks for any help.

IIRC some of the water jacket holes do get blocked/partially blocked by the gasket. more on that can be found in the general 40 series forum and some again in the 60 series forum. NOW, I know it's your pig, and I know I'm the LAST guy with standing ground to say....."DON"T BOB THAT PIG" I have some sections of back doors I can ship to you to use for patch panels. 79 was the last production year, it's poo brown from down under. it's not your run of the mill FJ55.....

this piggy is all road legal in the uk now. I don't know of any other pig that is also road legal in our country at present unless someone tells me otherwise.

had to get it mot tested. didn't need much - just a little welding on the front floor pans around the body mounts., a bit of work on the lights to get them domesticated, swivel joint rebuild and the sharp edges on the rusty bodywork taped up .

got rid of the roo bar ( the new turn signals are tempory).

also had to prove it's year of origin to our dvla. this was fun as Toyota were unable to date it for me despite having all the vin plate info and I had no paperwork from oz. here's a letter from Toyota's dedicated dating department...

Dear Mr Swallow

Further to your recent request for a vehicle dating letter, we have been
informed by Toyota Motor Corporation that due to the age of the vehicle we
are unable to provide the date of manufacture and therefore unable to
provide you with the vehicle dating letter as requested.

We would advise you to contact the DVLA to assist you further with the
registration of your vehicle.

I apologise that I cannot assist you further.

Kind regards

that clearly wasn't too helpful so I pressed them a bit......

hi emma

that puts me in a difficult position with the dvla. can you press Toyota
further- I know from independent sites that chassis number was produced
07/1979. surely Toyota themselves must have this info.?
if not can you tell me at what point in time Toyota stopped being able to
date their vehicles so I can at least use that to explain to the dvla why I
can't get a letter and see if they'll accept a less official source of
identification.
,regards

this is their reply.............

Dear Rob

Whilst we understand you are required to supply this data to the DVLA in
order to register your vehicle successfully and having received responses
from both Toyota Japan and Toyota Motor Europe i have exhausted all
possibilities of finding out this information for you. Our colleagues at
Toyota Motor Corporation Japan have informed us that vehicle data such as
this is not available for most vehicles over 10 years of age, and we
understand your vehicle is over 30 years of age.

Please be assured that It is always our intention as Toyota GB Plc to
support owners of Toyota vehicles and can only apologise that we are unable
to provide this information for you.

Kind regards

brilliant eh? Toyotas dating department won't guarantee dating vehicles more than 10yrs old!!!!!!!!!!!

eventually got a recognised car club to date it for me ( actually just accepted what I told them as they new nothing of Toyotas let alone 55s)

anyway to cut a long story short the pig is now registered and good to go...:bounce::bounce::bounce:

piggies got new boots and a slight lift on the front with some longer shackles.

apparently it has a heavy duty suspension. not really sure what that means but wanted to get it sitting pretty much like the chopped one above without going soa.

it has ironman shocks at the front and peddars at the rear (all good). don't know anything about the springs, can someone tell me if they are stock?

when it came to me it sat down at the front about an inch or so and the shackles were well worn where the pins fit through. made up some new shackles about 2" longer than the previous ones to get piggy sitting straight.

very happy with it's stance now with it's wheels filling the arches better. moving on to the winch soon with it's rear chop planned for august. btw what are my chances of finding a glovebox door??
