Round Peg, round hole....there is no specific rotational alignment of the axle splines to keep track of....chalk, tape, whatev...not needed. There is no reason to record the position of the axle for replacing it...if the splines of the axle are engaged with the splines of the locker and the axle is all the way in (can be bolted on) then it is installed correctly. The "inner" seal is the seal just behind the hub out at the corner, not in by the carrier of the third member. It is a reusable seal that is not destroyed by removing/replacing axles...it is however easy to remove and replace with the axle out.

when i rebuilt my rear axle, i forgot to put the outter flange gasket back on, on one side. Didn't want to take it back off to slip the gasket on, so i put a dab of FIPG around trying to seal it. Didn't last at all, within a few hundred miles my rear wheels had grease slung on them. Finally pulled the axle out, slid the gasket on and no problems since.

Hayes,
Can you restore the images?

Bumping this to see if there is another resource anyone knows of now that this one has no pictures. I will be installing two of these in the next couple weeks.

I have a lot of pics, trying to figure out the best way to show them. I guess they can go here but maybe putting them all into a gallery wold be better...

I think it might be time for an entire new write up in a clean package that can be added to the reference sticky. Anything will help though.

Install pics...
