The sure way to find out is to go there ourselves. And that someone else could be one of us! I can’t wait…Hopefully the water will have receded more as that video was late June and someone else will have blazed a new path down thar embankment.
Yep. I think he got stuck at the mud on the other side of the river. I heard some wheel spin before he backed up out of the river. Wondering what caused him to say “Oh, sh!t” shortly after.Looks like he turned around at about 1:30?
Mud didn't look too bad, but Joe has had some recent experience he can lean on.Yep. I think he got stuck at the mud on the other side of the river. I heard some wheel spin before he backed up out of the river. Wondering what caused him to say “Oh, sh!t” shortly after.![]()

I'm planning to run this weekend trip. Unless something with work goes sideways. Leaving friday mid morning. Possibly caravan with dat?BTW - Inyo NF just went into Stage 1 fire restrictions, so no wood campfires, even in a portable fire pit. If you have a portable propane pit, you should bring it if you'd like a campfire. Also, please remember to get/update your California Campfire Permit (required even for cook stoves). It's available online. Here's the text on exclusions:
"Persons with a California Campfire Permit are not exempt from the prohibitions above, however they may use a portable campfire ring/pit, stove, or lantern outside of a Developed Recreation Site, at least five feet from any flammable materials, provided that the portable campfire ring/pit, stove, or lantern only burns gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel, and has a shut-off valve."
The alternative, for a wood campfire, would be to find dispersed camping in the Sierra NF, which has no restrictions above 5K feet elevation. I don't know the area well enough to suggest possible location(s), and it likely wouldn't be near a river.
USFS Ranger confirmed the trail is open, and the river crossing is usable, though a little eroded. Based on that, I don’t expect any water crossing issues for even stock high clearance 4WD vehicles. Hope you can make it!I have never done Monache Meadow and would like to join the group for the trip. Do you think a stock LX 470 w/AHC, sliders and 33" tires will be suitable for this trip. I don't have a snorkel or water crossing mods.
Thanks
I can be at the Costco Lancaster by about 10:30, and the Mojave Stater Bros. parking lot by about 11:00 AM. I think the Monacos are planning to link up with me at one of those places. You’re welcome to join us, if that works for you.Is anyone planning on Thursday caravan ? Or Friday?

Marc Mason (Costa Mesa) & Dat (Pasadena) are planning to leave Friday, if that works better for you.
